Dingshu town is subordinate to Yixing City, Wuxi City, located in the Yangtze River Delta Economic Development Zone, adjacent to Taihu Lake in the East and Tianmu Mountain in the west, with an area of 192.18 square kilometers (2017), of which the built-up area of the urban area is 32 square kilometers, with a population of 202900 (2017), accounting for one fifth of Yixing City. It is one of the two main urban areas of Yixing City. The birthplace of Chinese pottery culture. Top 100 towns in China.
Dingshu town is a big population town, an important industrial town, a town with historical and cultural characteristics, and an important part of Yixing City. It is an important part of the famous Yangxian scenic spot and one of the tourist attractions in the south of the Yangtze River. The creation of ceramic art is colorful, and purple jade and gold sand are famous all over the world. The long-standing pottery culture has bred the excellent character of the people of Dingshu, who are hardworking, simple, brave and indomitable, and created a brilliant history. Dingshu town is one of the plates with the most concentrated natural endowment, the most profound historical and cultural heritage, the most advantageous traffic location and the strongest economic strength in Yixing.
In 2000, Dingshu town was planned as "the famous ceramic capital of China, an important industrial tourism city in Jiangsu Province, and a comprehensive business service city in the border areas of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui". In 2010, through the pilot project of "strengthening towns and expanding power" in Jiangsu Province, county-level management power was given. On October 14, 2016, Dingshu Town, Yixing City, Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province was named the first batch of small towns with Chinese characteristics by the Ministry of housing and urban rural development. On January 9, 2019, with the help of ceramics, it was selected into the list of "hometown of Chinese folk culture and art" from 2018 to 2020. On September 11, 2019, Dingshu town was selected into the "top 100 comprehensive competitiveness of Chinese towns in 2018".

Dingshu town is located in the southeast of Yixing City. It is adjacent to Taihu Lake in the East, Changxing County in Zhejiang Province in the south, Hufu town in the West and Yicheng street in the north. Covering an area of 206 square kilometers, it governs 18 communities including Shubei, Nanhe, Lishu, hudu, Dingshan, Jiefang, Gongyuan Road, Longxi, Huaxi, Pannan, Tangdu, baidang, Shushan, ZhouShu, Zhaozhuang, Zhangze, Dapu street, Chuanbu, Dingxi, Shuangqiao, Xiwang, Sandong bridge, Chengli, Jianxin, Renshu, Shangba, Fudong, Taoyuan, Chuanbu, ChaLin, luojian, qianluo, Zisha and Ganggang There are 28 administrative villages: Shuangmiao, Shidang, Beitang, Zhangze, Maoqi, Fangqian, Dapu, Punan, Tangzhuang, Weidu, Yangzhu and Yangan. It is a combination of Dingshan, Shushan and Tangdu, named after the first two words. Dingshu town was established in 1956, and Dingshu commune was established in January 1959. In May 1959, it was changed into Dingshu town (first, Dingxing town and Shushan town were established in 1949, and Dingshu town was established in hedingshan Town, Shushan town and Tangdu Township in 1955). ZhouShu township was merged in 1986 and Chuanbu township was merged in 1992.
In 1996, it covers an area of 106.8 square kilometers and has a population of 115000. Fudong town was merged in 2004. It is adjacent to Taihu Lake in the East, Changxing County in Zhejiang Province in the south, hupeng town in the west, Yicheng town and Dapu town in the north. It covers an area of 97.75 square kilometers and has a permanent population of 12788000. The built-up area of the town is 10 square kilometers. The town government is located in Jiefang Road, Dingshan, 10 kilometers southeast of the city government.
In 2005, Dingshu town governs 28 villages including Dingxi, Shuangqiao, Yinjia, Xiwang, Shushan, Tongshu, Fangxi, sandongqiao, ZhouShu, Chengli, Jianxin, Renshu, Hongwei, Zhaozhuang, Jiangli, Shangba, Huangchuan, Qianlong, Dagang, Lanshan, Fudong, Taoyuan, Chuanbu, ChaLin, luojian, qianluo, touyang and Zisha, and 28 villages including Shubei, shipping, Nanhe, Lishu, hudu, Dingshan, Jiefang There are 20 communities in Xizhuang, dongshanqian, Huaxin, zhangbian, Xinwei, Dingnan, Gongyuan Road, Caitao, Nanshan, Longxi, Huaxi, Tangdu and Pannan (among them, 6 villages in Chuanbu, ChaLin, luojian, qianluo, touyang and Zisha are actually managed by huanke Park).
In 2006, Yixing municipal Party committee and government decided to adjust the management ownership of some administrative villages under the Environmental Science Park, and put six administrative villages, including Chuanbu village, ChaLin village, luojian village, qianluo village, touyang village and Zisha village, under the management of Dingshu town.
In 2005, the town governs 18 villages including Shuangmiao, Nanwan, Shidang, Beitang, Zhangze, Youmo, Shanlin, Nanyuan, Dashu, Maoqi, Fangqian, Dapu, Punan, Pubei, Tangzhuang, Weidu, Yangzhu, Yangan and 2 communities including Zhangze and Dapu street. On March 16, 2006, the municipal government's reply on agreeing to adjust the eight village committee areas including Fangqian village in Dapu town (yizhengfa No. 55) agreed to the following adjustments: 1. Fangqian village committee and Pubei village committee were merged, and the merged name was Fangqian village committee. 2、 Yangan village committee and Nanwan village committee are merged, and the merged name is Yangan village committee. 3、 Zhangze village committee and Youmo village committee are merged, and the merged name is Zhangze village committee. 4、 Nanyuan village committee and Dashu village committee are merged, and the merged name is Nanyuan village committee.
The original Fudong town was Fudong Township in 1949, changed to commune in 1961, and changed to township in 1983. In 1996, the township was set up with an area of 53 square kilometers and a population of 15000. It has 14 administrative villages, namely Shangba, Jingqiao, Chushan, dabutou, Qianlong, Dagang, nanyuanyuan, Xingang, Lanyou, Huangdu, Baini, Changzheng, Jianzhong and Linjia. In 2004, the town was withdrawn and merged into Dingshu town.
The former Dapu town is located in the east of Yixing City. It is adjacent to Taihu Lake in the East, Dingshu town in the south, Yicheng town in the West and Dongqi town in the north. It covers an area of 45.5 square kilometers, with a water surface area of 6000 mu and a permanent population of 34000. The town government is located in Renmin Road, Dapu, 7 kilometers east of the city government. The built-up area of the town is 1.5 square kilometers, with a postcode of 214226. It was originally named taihupu, which means the port beside Taihu Lake. Later it was changed to Dapu.
Dapu town was established from 1911 to 1949 (later changed to Dapu township). In 1959, Dapu commune was established. In October 1983, Dapu township was changed. In 1995, Dapu township was established. In 1996, it covers an area of 20 square kilometers and has a population of 16000. It has jurisdiction over 15 administrative villages of Yangan, Yangzhu, Zhuwei, Zhangdu, Tangdu, linzhuang, Daohua, Dapu aquatic products, Houhe, Punan, Dapu, Yangwei, Shihou, Fangjia, qianjiabang and Dapu Street neighborhood committee. In 2000, Zhang zezhen was incorporated into the city.
In 2007, Dapu town was abolished. The two neighborhood committees of Zhangze and Dapu and 12 village committees of Shuangmiao, Shidang, Beitang, Zhangze, Maoqi, Fangqian, Dapu, Punan, Tangzhuang, Weidu, Yangzhu and Yangan under the jurisdiction of Dapu town are under the jurisdiction of Dingshu town; the two village committees of Shanlin and Nanyuan under the jurisdiction of Dapu town are under the management of Yicheng street. The original Zhangze town was Zhangze Township in 1949, changed to commune in 1959, changed to township in 1983, and established Zhangze town in 1993. In 1996, with an area of 27.5 square kilometers and a population of 20000, it has jurisdiction over 17 administrative villages including Shuangmiao, Gangxi, Nanwan, Shidang, Jinxing, Beitang, Longhua, Tuqiao, Youqian, Youhou, Zhujia, Maoqi, Guojia, Dashu, Nanyuan, Shanlin, Zhangze aquatic products and Zhangze neighborhood committee. In 2000, the town was withdrawn and merged into Dapu town.
In 2017, it had a population of 202900 and an area of 192.18 square kilometers.

Ceramic Art Festival
Dingshu town is the most famous pottery in Yixing, Jiangsu Province. Since the reform and opening up, Yixing pottery industry has developed rapidly. With daily-use pottery as the bulk, "Su jar", wine jar, casserole and other pottery are durable in quality and elegant in appearance. Among them, the varieties of purple sand craft pottery include pots, cups, dishes, bottles, flower pots, sculptures, etc., with precise texture, exquisite modeling, simple decoration and distinctive national style.
The first ceramic art festival, may 7-9, 1988
The opening ceremony of the first China Yixing Ceramic Art Festival was held in the square of Yixing Ceramic Exhibition Hall on the morning of May 7, 1988. Mayor Zhang boduan delivered a welcome speech, vice governor Li Shouzhang of Jiangsu Province delivered a congratulatory speech, member Jiang Weiqing of the CPC Central Committee and vice governor Li Shouzhang cut ribbon for the festival, and members Du Ping and Zhu Muzhi of the CPC Central Committee, Secretary Han Peixin of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and governor Gu Xiulian of Jiangsu Province respectively wrote congratulations for the festival 791 Chinese and foreign guests attended the opening ceremony.

During this period, foreign merchants and Yixing enterprises officially signed 15 supply contracts with a turnover of 6.37 million US dollars. Shanghai TV station specially organized the "grand stage" evening party of the first ceramic art festival.
