Geological structure
According to geological scientific investigation, in the middle Sinian period (about 1 billion years ago), Zhulinguan area was in the sinking stage, and was widely immersed in the sea, forming a set of trough type deep accumulation. At the end of Ordovician (about 400 million years ago), under the influence of Caledonian movement, the sea water retreated and formed Caledonian fold belt. Later, after the Variscan and Indosinian movement, the history of sea immersion ended in stages from north to south. Under the action of folds and faults, the sea uplifted into land one after another, and Canghai became Sangtian. Near Zhougong mountain, Dasangyuan village, Zhulinguan Town, and on the hillside of Wenchi village, there is a resounding sand, which is the remains of ancient sea immersion. In Mesozoic (about 100 million years ago), the Yanshanian movement formed the Zhulinguan fault basin. In the Tertiary period (about 30 million years ago), with the Himalayan movement, the fault block differentiation movement occurred again, forming a wide range of small Intermountain basins, accumulating red glutenite and terrigenous clastic deposits of clay beds. Since the Quaternary (about 2 million years ago), the crust has been faulted, differentiated and uplifted again, and the Tertiary red beds have been dislocated and folded, forming the third and fourth terraces along the Danjiang River and Yinhua river.
The East Qinling fold system of Qinqi geosyncline is composed of Caledonian, Variscan and Indosinian fold belts from north to south, separated by Fengzhen Zhulinguan Fuxing fault in Zhashui County, and is distributed in east-west direction with complex structure and great lithological variation.
