Jiefang Road
Jiefang Road is located in Yuexiu District, the center of Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. It is a main north-south road in Guangzhou. It starts from Yanjiang Road in the South (originally Yide road in the south, but later extended due to the construction of Jiefang Bridge), and connects to airport road in the north. The total length is about 5 km. The road is divided into Jiefang South Road, Jiefang middle road and Jiefang North Road.
history
In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was an important road for Guangzhou. The south section is called Xiaoshi street, the middle section is called guide gate Street (commonly known as Sipailou), the south section of Panfu road in the north section is called dabeimen street, and the north section of Panfu road is called outer city road. in order to improve the traffic, in 1929, the city walls of Guangzhou were demolished and roads were built. Xiaoshi street was expanded into Zhonghua South Road, guidemen straight street into Zhonghua Middle Road, and dabeimen straight street into Zhonghua North Road. Among them, the five memorial archways on Zhonghua middle road still stand in the middle of the road after the road expansion. The width of the three stone gates of the memorial archways is different, and the middle one is wider, which can pass through the medium-sized cars at that time, and the small doors on both sides can pass through the rickshaws (rickshaws). In 1947, the number of cars in Guangzhou increased. From time to time, cars collided with the memorial archway. The municipal government made the decision to move. Guangzhou Works Bureau spent a lot of money to make the relocation plan. Finally, yishitaiguang memorial archway and Wuchen Jinshi memorial archway were moved to the south gate and west gate of Hanmin Park (which was later changed into children's Park and is now the site of Nanyue Palace). The Shengshi Zhichen memorial archway and Chengen Five Dynasties memorial archway were moved to the stone steps at the entrance of Guanyin Mountain (Yuexiu mountain) to the north of Zhongshan Memorial Hall. Yichou memorial archway was moved to Lingnan University (today's Sun Yat sen University) in Kangyuan. After moving out of the fourth archway of Zhonghua Road, the name of "pailou" is left behind. On October 14, 1949, the PLA captured Guangzhou. In order to commemorate this historical event, on the army day of August 1, 1951, the Guangzhou Municipal People's government decided to change the name of the former Zhonghua (North, middle and South) road, where the PLA first entered Guangzhou, to Jiefang (North, middle and South) road. during the first day of the first month of the first month of the Qing Dynasty, all kinds of lanterns were hung in shops and houses. According to Renshen's Nanhai continuation annals, the lantern market is located in Sipailou and xiuyifang, where the flag people are engaged in many businesses. It is the most prosperous from New Year's day to Shangyuan. There are Bodhi leaf lamps, which are suitable for famous temples. Ruan Yuan's "Yangcheng light market" says: Haiao cloud is delicate and exquisite, guide gate is in the forefront of the color screen, the city fire is abundant, and the remaining material resources are abundant. As for the modern Jiefang Middle Road, its official names were Zhongxian street and guidezhi street in Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the Ming Dynasty, there were as many as ten memorial archways on this street. In the late Qing Dynasty, there were five stone archways built in the Ming Dynasty. From north to south, they were shengshizhichen archway, Yichou Jinshi archway, Chengen Five Dynasties archway, yishitaiguang archway and Wuchen Jinshi archway. Shengshi Zhichen memorial archway was built for the famous Zhichen Hai Rui in Ming Dynasty. This memorial archway was moved from cangbian Street (today's cangbian Road) to this place in 1865. It can be inferred that there were only four archways here before 1865. During the second Opium War in 1857, the British and French invading forces occupied Guangzhou city. Four archways of the original "four brand real estate market" were destroyed by the war, and only four stone archways survived in guidezhi street. Therefore, after 1857, guidezhi street was commonly known as "Sipailou".
