Historical evolution
Yumai Township belonged to longzizong before the peaceful liberation of Tibet.
After the peaceful liberation of Tibet, Yumen township was established, belonging to zari district.
In 1960, it was renamed Yumai Township, belonging to zari district.
In 1969, Yumai township was changed into Yumai commune, belonging to Zhari district.
In March 1979, suizari district was under the jurisdiction of Longzi county.
In 1984, Yumai commune restored Yumai Township, belonging to Zhari district of Longzi county.
In 1987, Longzi County adjusted its administrative division to Zhari district.
In July 1999, Longzi County withdrew the district and merged the township, abolished Zhari district, and established Yumai Township directly under the county government.

In 1962, weeds began to occupy many abandoned houses in Yumai, leaving only three herdsmen in the township.

In 1983, considering the difficulties of Yumai Township, the government moved the remaining three families of Yumai township to qusong Township, which has better conditions outside the mountain. But after only one winter in qusong, Sangji Quba returned to Yumai with his family.

On July 10, 2020, 43 people from 11 households in Qusang village of zari Township moved to the relocation site of yulintang in Yumai Township, increasing the number of Yumai villagers to 67 households and more than 230 people.
