Pucheng town

Pucheng town is located in the central and southern part of Puxian County, connecting Heilongguan town in the East, Shanzhong Township in the west, Hongdao Township in the north, Hedi Township and Jixian County in Yaodu District in the south. It is 12 kilometers long from east to west and 28 kilometers long from north to south, with a total area of 265.1 square kilometers, of which the urban area is 8 square kilometers. With mild climate, rich natural resources and rapid development, the town is the political, economic and cultural center of the county.

Historical evolution

It has been the political, economic and cultural center of the county in the past dynasties. Since the establishment of puchuan County in 589 ad, it has been the seat of Puxian County in Sui, Tang, song, yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, and the seat of the county government in the Republic of China. In 1948, Puxian county has been the seat of the CPC Puxian County Committee and Puxian people's government since its liberation. Pucheng town is a combination of Chengguan town and Diaokou town in April 2001. At the time of merger, Chengguan Town governs 8 administrative villages, namely Chengguan, Jingpo, taowan, Caojiazhuang, Zaolin, Dengjiashan, nianao and MUJIAZHUANG; Diaokou Township governs 5 administrative villages, namely Diaokou, Nanyao, rujiaping, Angou and Qianyao; after merger, there are 13 administrative villages. In 2003, Dengjiashan was merged into Jingpo village, Angou village into Diaokou village and Qianyao village into rujiaping village. After the merger, the town has 10 administrative villages and 56 villager groups, including Chengguan, taowan, Jingpo, Caojiazhuang, MUJIAZHUANG, nianao, Zaolin, rujiaping, Diaokou and Nanyao. In 2008, MUJIAZHUANG and nianwa were merged into nianwa village. In 2010, the total population was 21930, including 9320 agricultural residents and 11610 urban residents.

The main stream of Nanchuan river originates from the west side of Baoliang Wayao ditch in the East ditch of Nanyao village of this town, flows through Nanchuan, and joins Xinshui River at the entrance of Jingpo village, with many tributaries covering the whole Nanchuan area. Both Xinshui River and Beichuan river flow through the town.

The forest area is 11560 hectares, covering 45.14%. The main tree species is Quercus liaotungensis, which is one of the main forest areas in the county. Wild plants in the territory are shandingzi, hawthorn, seabuckthorn, peach, apricot, jujube, Auricularia auricula, mushrooms, etc. There are more than 270 kinds of medicinal plants, such as Lycium barbarum, Rehmannia glutinosa, Radix Glehniae, Radix Glycyrrhizae, Radix Paeoniae Alba, Radix Scutellariae, Fructus Forsythiae, Schizonepeta tenuifolia, Herba Ephedrae, Radix Bupleuri, rhubarb, Rhizoma Anemarrhenae, Fructus Schisandrae, cortex rehmanniae, mint, etc. There are more than 70 species of terrestrial vertebrates, mainly leopard, masked civet, cat civet, blue sheep, wild boar, musk deer, hare, magpie, lark, crow, quail, golden pheasant, brown eared pheasant, Golden Eagle, etc. Among them, the national first class protected animals, Shanxi bird brown eared pheasant and national second class protected animals leopard are mainly distributed in Leopard ridge and surrounding mountain forests. Mineral resources include coal and iron, especially high-quality coking coal, with geological reserves of 227 million tons.

With an area of 1722.06 hectares of arable land, the town is one of the main grain production areas in the county, mainly including corn, wheat, millet, potato, minor cereals, etc.

There is a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit, Puxian historic site baishangdongyue temple, which is located on the East Baishan Mountain of the county. It is a large group of buildings centered on the main hall of Dongyue palace. It is said that it was built in the Tang Dynasty and rebuilt in the yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. With a construction area of more than 7000 square meters and more than 280 buildings, the main hall in the middle of the temple is majestic, surrounded by simple corridors and lifelike statues. In front of the main hall stands the magnificent "Heaven building", and behind it are the "Hell House" of the upper and lower houses. There are more than 1000 mu of pines and cypresses around. It is a key cultural relic protection unit of the state.
