In March 1958, Micangshan township was incorporated.
In October 1958, it was changed into Ganquan commune.
In October 1966, Ganquan commune was renamed Dongfeng commune.
In May 1970, it was renamed Ganquan commune.
In December 1983, Ganquan commune was transformed into Ganquan township.
In January 2002, Ganquan township was changed into Ganquan Town.
