Changtan Town, subordinate to Wanzhou District of Chongqing, is located in the southeast of Wanzhou District, adjacent to wailang township of Yunyang County in the East, Longju town in the south, Cizhu Township and Changling town in the west, Baiyang town and Tai'an town in the north. It is 23.0 km away from the government of Wanzhou District, with a total area of 127.8 square kilometers.
In 1929, Changtan town was located in the Ninth District of Wanxian county. In October 1992, Changtan town was established by merging Changtan Township, Shatan Township and Quanshui township. As of June 2020, Changtan town has 3 communities and 11 administrative villages, and the people's Government of Changtan town is located at No. 666, Changtan community.

History of construction
Changtan town is named after Changtan well, where the town people's government is located.
In 1929, it was the Ninth District of Wanxian county. In 1938, Changtan township was established.
In 1949, it was subordinate to Xintian district.
In December 1955, Longquan Township was merged into Changtan township.
In August 1958, Changtan township was changed into Changtan commune.
In July 1984, Changtan commune was changed into Changtan township.
In October 1992, Changtan Township, Shatan Township and Quanshui Township were merged to establish Changtan town.
In August 2004, Xiangxiang was incorporated into Changtan town.
