In 1958, Xinxing town was divided into two communes: Xinji commune and Xiaozi commune.

In 1978, xiaozimu commune was changed into xiaozimu Hui nationality township.

In 1984, Xinji commune was changed into Xinji Hui nationality township.

In 1996, xiaozimu Hui Township and Xinji Hui Township merged into Xinxing town.
