Gaoping and Jincheng were divided into counties in 1961, belonging to Shimei people's commune; on May 25, 1984, the government and society were separated, belonging to Shimei township. History and culture

According to archaeological findings, at the latest in the late Paleolithic period, there were human settlements in Shimo township. During the Xia and Shang Dynasties, Jizhou belonged to the state of Jin in the spring and Autumn period. After the division of Jin, it belonged to Han first and then to Zhao. After the war of Qin and Zhao Changping, it belonged to Shangdang county.
