Gula township is located in the northeast of Chayu County, 130 kilometers away from the county seat, 90 degrees east longitude, 29 degrees north latitude, with an average altitude of about 2500 meters. It belongs to Hengduan Mountains. The water system is Nujiang River system, with a trend of high in the West and low in the East. Gula Township faces Zuogong County in Changdu city in the East and North, zhuwagen town and chawalong Township in Chayu County in the south, and Guyu Township in Chayu County in the West.

The total area of the township is 2073.54 square kilometers, accounting for 10.4% of the total area of the county.

The total population is 2394 (2017).

In 1960, Gula district was established, known as the Gula District Committee. In 1961, it was changed into the people's Government of Gula township. The commune was changed in 1972. in 1978, the district was restored. In 1987, it was changed into Gula township. It was originally located in the center of genba village and moved to the new area 300 meters south by the end of 2004. In 1997, it has jurisdiction over six administrative villages: Zhaxi, cipeng, ABA, Wenyu, sadui and Zhaba. In 2005, the township had 15 administrative villages: naxue village, Eryu village, rituo village, Shadui village, shamei village, Guanlong Village (including cibeng village and Daqing Village), zeba Village (including jueba village and Buru Village), genba village, chaaru village, anba village, zaxing village, chakong village, muben Village, Xueni village and Geba village. from April 19 to 23, 2017, 93 people from 16 households in Geba village, Gula Township were relocated to Zhuba village, shangchayu town. on May 30, 2016, muben village of Gula township was relocated to xinmuben village near consolidation village of shangchayu town.

It flows from northwest to East through Gula Township and flows into Nujiang River at the downstream of anba village in Gula Township, with a total length of 67km and a drainage area of 1879km2. The tributaries of ranbuqu include nuolong Qu, Longren Qu, Eryu Qu and Erke Qu.

The economic income of farmers and herdsmen mainly depended on the government's various policy subsidies and the income from digging Cordyceps sinensis.

By 2015, the traffic was inconvenient. The road from the county seat to Gula township was about 2 meters wide, and the mountain was snowed for half a year. Half of the villages in the area have no decent roads, so they can only take the dangerous "luomashan road", the cable way and the cliff climbing. For example, in September 2015, the reporter took a 7-hour bus from Chayu county to Gula township government station with Gula township police station. in June 2015, the new construction of zuoca highway started from Migu highway in Zuogong County, Changdu City, and ended at chakong village, Gula Township, with a total investment of 20.63 million yuan, and a new class IV gravel highway of 18 km was built. It will effectively solve the problem of snow mountain closure in winter in Gula Township, and open up a third road for Chayu. In June 2015, the construction of Risha highway in Gula township was started, with a total investment of 36.87 million yuan, and 26 km of grade IV gravel highway was newly built. In October 2007, there were only a few low earth houses built half a century ago in Gula Central Primary School, and the desks were supported by adobe. In 2008, the fifth batch of Guangdong Tibet aid working group returned to Guangdong to raise 3 million yuan in cash and 2 million yuan in material value for school construction. In July, Yu Shiyou, vice president of Guangdong Sun Yat sen University, led a team to help build a primary school in Gula township. in April 2017, the Central Primary School Kindergarten of Gula Township opened, which is the first public kindergarten in Gula township. In August 2015, Gula Township carried out comparative propaganda activities and literary and artistic activities of "praising the party's kindness, Chinese dream, Gula dream, always following the party" in new and old Tibet in Shadui village, shamei village and longri village.
