Liuju town is 45 kilometers away from Dayao County. The northeast is adjacent to Yijiu town of Yongren County, the south to zhaojiadian Township and Jinbi Town, and the west to Tanhua Township and Xinjie township. Rich in copper resources, it is a key copper mine area in Central Yunnan. The terrain is high in the West and low in the East. The highest altitude is 2756.4 meters in guangtou mountain, and the lowest altitude is 1507 meters in michibao. There are Boji River, Liuju River and zhenamo river. Three rivers run through the town from west to East, including 2917 mu of paddy fields and 7097 Mu of dry land.

It governs 8 village committees and 90 villager groups. It is a mid mountain town composed of Han and Yi people. Liuju was originally written in the Yi language, meaning a place with many stones, and then changed to Liuju. During the reign of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty, Liuju village included two small villages, Liuju and changputang, with 140 families and a population of 702. After liberation, it belonged to namo District, and Liuju township was set up after 1956. In 1958, Liuju people's commune was established. In 1962, Liuju district was established. In 1965, it was merged into the new street commune and restored in 1971. In 1988, the town was established with 10 offices under its jurisdiction. In 2003, after the tax reform, it was merged into Liuju village committee. Now the town has 8 village committees. The total area of cultivated land in the town is 6.67 hectares, the area of forest land is 221.7 hectares, and the forest coverage rate reaches 74%.
