Red earth town

Hongtudi town belongs to Dongchuan City of Kunming City, Yunnan Province. It is a new town. In November 2005, with the approval of the provincial government, the former fazhe Township and the former Xintian Township were abolished, and the red earth town was merged and established. It was named after the world-famous red earth in the territory.

Hongtudi town is located in the southwest of Dongchuan District, 75 kilometers away from the main urban area of Dongchuan. It borders zhuanlong Town, Wumeng Township and Xueshan township of Luquan County along the foot of Jiaozi snow mountain in the west, and Fengyi Township, Lianhe Township and Jinyuan township of Xundian County in the south. The total land area of the town is 322.93 square kilometers, with many mountains and deep valleys, most of which are river valleys. Xueling, with the highest altitude of 4344.1 meters in Kunming, is also located in hongtudi Town, with the lowest altitude of 1450 meters and relative elevation difference of 2894 meters, which is a typical three-dimensional climate.

Historical evolution

It was founded in 1959 and changed to districts in 1984 and townships in 1988. In 1997, it covers an area of 229.1 square kilometers and has a population of 14000. It governs 11 administrative villages, namely, fazhe, maobazi, bengde, tanfang, Dapingzi, erpingzi, shiyangquan, Xinle, yinshuiqing, Longshu and majiaoqing. In 2005, the four village committees of Xintian, Huagou, songmaopeng and cangfang under the jurisdiction of Fazhi Township and Xintian Township were abolished, and laterite town was established.

The original Xintian township is located 16 kilometers southwest of Dongchuan City. Xintian commune was established in 1965, changed to district in 1984 and township in 1988. In 1997, it covers an area of 96.9 square kilometers and has a population of 9000. It governs six administrative villages, namely Xintian, cangfang, Wafang, dashing, songmaopeng and Huagou. In 2005, Xintian, Huagou, songmaopeng and cangfang were transferred to laterite town; Wafang and dashing were transferred to Wulong town.

Jiaozi snow mountain and red earth are linked to each other. The red earth in Dongchuan is considered by experts to be the most powerful red earth in the world except Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The scene is more magnificent than that in Brazil. Jiaozi snow mountain, known as the "ridge of central Yunnan", is covered with snow and clouds. The mountain is shaped like an ancient armchair. At the beginning of 2007, the whole line of oil roads was connected, and 10 of the 15 villages in the town had smooth oil roads.
