In 1959, Shaba, nangan and Tianjing were changed into production management areas, which were subordinate to Pingyuan commune (the area was changed into big commune). In September 1961, the Big Commune was renamed District, the management area was changed into people's commune, and Shaba, nangan and Tianjing were combined into nangan people's commune, which was subordinate to Jiancha district. In March 1963, nangan people's commune was divided into three small people's communes: Tianjing, nangan and Shaba. In 1984, the people's commune was renamed township. In August 1988, nangan and YangLe (Shaba) successively established Tujia township.
