On December 18, 2019, the people's Government of Sichuan Province approved Aba Prefecture to adjust the administrative divisions of 10 counties (cities) including malkang city (cfgm [2019] No. 22): longri township was abolished and longri town was established. The administrative region of longri Township and the management area of longri breeding stock farm were taken as the administrative region of longri town. The people's Government of longri town was stationed at No. 1, gemalalong Road, Gema village number.

Hongyuan County governs the town, which is set up by the original longri township.
