Yanping Town, subordinate to Yunyang County of Chongqing, is located in the southeast of Yunyang County. It faces Yangshi town of Fengjie County across the river in the East, juocao town and Qingshui Township in the south, Pu'an Township in the west, Xinjin Township and Guling town in the north. It is 70 kilometers away from the residence of Yunyang County Government, with a total area of 52.3 square kilometers.
In Ming Dynasty, Yanping town belonged to renshouli, Juren township; in 2013, Yanping town was changed from Yanping township to Yanping town. As of June 2020, Yanping town has one community and five administrative villages, and the town people's government is located in Baifu community.

History of construction
In the Ming Dynasty, it belonged to renshouli, Juren township.
In the middle of the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Shibi Xiajia and Xingan Jia. In the late Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Guling township.
In 1933, it belonged to Pu'an town.
In March 1953, Gaosi Township and Yanping Township were separated from Pu'an township.
In September 1954, Gaosi township was merged into Yanping township.
In May 1958, Yanping commune was established in Yanping township.
In September 1992, Yanping Township and Gaoping Township merged to build Guling town.
In October 1995, Yanping township was established from Guling town.
In 2013, Yanping township was changed from township to town.
