As of June 2020, there are four administrative villages under the jurisdiction of Dibao Tujia rural area, and the Township People's government is located at 188 Baoxi road.

Dibao Tujia township is named after Baotan, where the Township People's government is located.
In the late Qing Dynasty, it belonged to the top ten of sanzhengli.
Before 1949, it belonged to Taiping Township, Lichuan County, Hubei Province.
In June 1953, Zhidi Baotan township.
In September 1981, dibaotan township was changed into dibaotan commune.
In June 1983, dibaotan commune was restored to dibaotan township.
In July 2008, dibaotan township was changed to Dibao Tujia township.
