Guancheng town is located in the north of Pingnan County, 15 kilometers away from the county. It borders Anhuai town in Pingnan County in the East, Pingnan town and Huancheng town in the south, Tonghe town and Malian Township in the West. The town covers an area of 203 square kilometers, with 12000 mu of suitable forest area and 556800 mu of cultivated land, including 4356800 mu of paddy field and 120400 mu of dry land. There are 17 village committees, 88 natural villages and 511 villager groups in the town. At the end of 2002, there were 18881 households with a population of 88865, including 86587 agricultural population. Every village in the town has access to cars, telephones and televisions.

Historical data

According to records, it was called Guancun in the late Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty, and established a town in 1984. In Ming Dynasty, the inspection department of Pingnan was once located in Gucheng village of Guancheng town. Cheng Yi, Cheng Hao and Zhou Dunyi (Lianxi), the second sons of Cheng Long, the governor of Gongzhou, gave lectures and studied in the Sihui Stone Mountain of Guancheng in the Song Dynasty. Hu Yihuang, the king of Yu in the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, was born in luowendui, Xinping village, Guancheng town. There are Changyan nostalgia, one of the eight scenic spots in Pingnan, as well as the famous "great victory site in Guancun" and "ancient residence of King Yu of Taiping Heavenly Kingdom".
