Shentang town is located in the north of Leizhou City, adjacent to Yue town of Suixi County and Taiping town of Mazhang District, and connected with Kelu town in the West. It covers an area of 66.6 square kilometers (2017), with a cultivated land area of 28000 mu. It governs 15 administrative districts, 51 natural villages, and has a population of 58163 people in shentangwei (2017). It's 8 kilometers from Leicheng. Rice is the main food crop; sugarcane, peanut, dandelion and beiyuncai are the economic crops. Dandelion has a long history of planting, known as "the hometown of Puzhi", with more than 5000 mu of dandelion.

Human customs

Shentang Town Dragon Dance (primitive type) originated in the Jiaqing period of Ming Dynasty (1523). In order to celebrate the new construction of shentangwei by local official Chen Shikai, Shentang villagers created Dragon Dance (Chen Shikai was born as a Jinshi, rich in Lei Yang, and went to Lingbi County of Anhui Province as the magistrate of Chengshu, qiuman). On the 15th and 16th of August of the Mid Autumn Festival, we have a carnival in the market street. When we forget our love, we lift our friends on our shoulders. Those who lie on their shoulders hold the latter's feet in their hands and hold the former's neck in their feet. We lift them one by one. "Dragon head" is the responsibility of a strong young man. A lively and lovely little boy is tied to the dragon head's chest with a red silk belt. The little boy bites one of the incense which is ignited as "dragon tongue" and holds one incense in each hand as "longan". another little boy rides on the shoulder of dragon head, holding incense in both hands as "dragon horn", while "dragon tail" is carried upside down by the Dragon feet. A light boy with good waist strength, hands together, waves incense in the shape of dragon tail, and the Dragon leader uses incense to insert it on the hat as "Dragon Ball", thus forming the predecessor of Shentang's "human Dragon Dance". It does not make up, does not wear costumes, its length depends on people, and its people are happy . for hundreds of years, it has been followed up to now. Today, Zhanjiang and Leizhou attach great importance to the construction of folk culture.
