Wanzhai township is located in the northeast corner of Xuanen county. The township government is 29km away from the county. It is adjacent to Changtan Township and Xintang township of Enshi City in the east-west and Southeast, Jiaoyuan town and Zhushan Town in the south, Bajiao township of Enshi City in the West and Sancha of Enshi City across the river in the north.

Xuanen County governs the township. It covers an area of 183.58 square kilometers (2017). The resident population was 25114 (2017). It has jurisdiction over 24 administrative villages. The township government is stationed in Wanzhai.

The township is named after Wanzhai market town. Yuan and Ming dynasties belong to Dongxiang Tusi. In the 13th year of Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to dongxiangli. In 1950, it belonged to Chengguan District. It was the Second District in 1951, Dongsheng commune in 1958 and Wanzhai District in 1961. In 1975, the district was withdrawn and merged into three communes: Wanzhai commune, Banchang commune and zhongzhonghe commune. In 1984, Wanzhai and Banchang communes were merged into Wanzhai District, and zhongzhonghe commune was merged into Changtanhe district.
In 1995, Daheba Township covers an area of 44.3 square kilometers with a population of 7000, of which 63% are Tujia, Miao and Dong, and has jurisdiction over five administrative villages, namely Dahe, Wangtai, yuheping, Luozhentian and Damingshan; Xiangjia village covers an area of 36.2 square kilometers with a population of 8000, of which 65% are Tujia and Miao, and has jurisdiction over six administrative villages, namely Changyangou, Xiangjia, zhiyaoping, qianshiying, shixinhe and liuyantang Village: Baiguo Township covers an area of 43.5 square kilometers, with a population of 6000, of which Tujia, Miao and Dong nationalities account for 53%, and it governs six administrative villages, namely, solongba, Tiechanggou, baiguoba, Changsha River, xiaoguzhu and Houping; Banchang Township covers an area of 59.2 square kilometers, with a population of 8000, of which Tujia, Miao and Dong nationalities account for 53%, and it governs jinlongping, BaiHushan, Maanshan, Banchang, wujiatai, Liangfeng There are seven administrative villages in Zhongtai.

Geography
The township has 24 natural administrative villages, including qianshiying, shixinhe, xiaoguzhu, Houping, zhiyaoping, baiguoba, Changsha River, liuyantang, Changyangou, solongba, xiangjiacun, Daheba, Tiechanggou, Damingshan, Wangtai, Luozhentian, Zhongtai, taroheping, Liangfeng, wujiatai, Banchang, Maanshan, BaiHushan and jinlongping, with a total of 25114 villagers (2017) )The total land area is 183.58 square kilometers (2017), with 2309 hectares of arable land and 3475 hectares of forest land. There are many kinds of organisms in the township. The main food crops are rice, corn, wheat and potato. The economic crops include tea, tobacco, rape, citrus and peanut. The well-known "selenium enriched tribute tea" is produced in the township. The main economic trees are Cunninghamia lanceolata, Pinus massoniana, Quercus, and "three wood" medicinal materials. Dongping Hydropower Station is one of the key water conservancy projects in the whole province and the whole Prefecture, one of the largest water conservancy projects in Qingjiang River Basin, and the largest life project in Xuanen county. In 2002, the total rural economic income of the township was 66.2222 million yuan, and the per capita net income of farmers was 1447 yuan, up 3.4 percentage points compared with 2001. It is one of the townships (towns) with the fastest rural economic development and the strongest stamina in Xuanen county.

history
Wanzhai, formerly known as huquanya, was under the jurisdiction of Dongxiang Tusi in the yuan and Ming Dynasties. In the 13th year of Yongzheng reign in the Qing Dynasty, Xuanen county was established under the jurisdiction of Shinan Prefecture, and Wanzhai was under the jurisdiction of dongxiangli in Xuanen county. In the Qing Dynasty, the uprising of bailianjiao spread to Shinan. One of the uprisings was stationed in huquanya, which developed rapidly and established many barracks. From the place names left behind, there are qianshiying, Yinying, dayingkou, xiaoyingkou, Xinzhai, Eryuan, Taigong, Luojia, Majiazhai, zhaizishang, etc. Huquanya is located in the middle, known as Wanzhai. According to folklore, Liang Shimin, a military general of the Qing Dynasty, was sent to Shinan to suppress and March to Yichang. It was said that there were "thousands of battalions" and "thousands of villages" in huquanya. He was so scared that he retreated without fighting. Since then, the name of Wanzhai has been known both inside and outside Shi Nan's house.
Tribute tea
Wanzhai was named gongcha. Dating back to the Qianlong period, the tea collected by a local tea maker named Wu changchen was green, sweet and refreshing. It was a combination of color, aroma and taste. It was deeply loved by Qianlong and became a good tribute product. From then on, the name of tribute tea spread widely and became famous all over the country. In recent years, it has vigorously implemented tea gardening, made great efforts to build a green tea Town, and made great efforts to improve tea industrialization and upgrade. Now, the "two belt tea economic belt" and "one green tea corridor" have begun to take shape, and ten thousand mu tea garden has taken shape. At present, there are five tea bases and 19 large and small tea factories in the township. Among them, wujiatai tea General Factory is the leading enterprise in the township. Its famous brands such as "green needle", "Gongyu" and "Jianhao" are not only high-grade tea drinks, but also high-quality health care products because of their rich selenium and zinc. They have won national, provincial and ministerial awards for many times, and are deeply loved by the vast number of consumers. They have not only become the top brands in China Zhongcheng's best-selling cup and famous tea on the table are also popular in Germany, Japan, Inner Mongolia and many other overseas countries. In 2001, it successfully introduced foreign tea merchants and invested 2 million yuan to establish "Lanyu tea factory". In 2001, the township was awarded one of the top ten famous townships by Hubei Provincial Department of agriculture. In 2002, CCTV-2 was famous for shooting tea feature films here.

Dongping water control project
As one of the first batch of world bank loan key projects in Hubei Province, Dongping water control project not only has important practical significance in water conservancy application, environmental protection and climate regulation, but also promotes the local economic development.

Dongping Hydropower Station is a 135m high concrete logarithmic spiral double curvature arch dam with an installed capacity of 110MW and an average annual power generation of 322 million KW. H. The total static investment of the project is 815 million yuan and the total dynamic investment is 919 million yuan. The main buildings include concrete double curvature arch dam, energy dissipation structure, power generation and water diversion system, underground powerhouse and switch station.
Gongcha ancestor's tomb
The wujiatai tribute tea of Xuanen County, which Emperor Qianlong personally presented plaque, is famous as China. It is a popular drink nowadays. Wu changchen, the founder of gongcha, died in wujiatai, Xuanen County, the birthplace of gongcha.
Wu changchen was born in the 22nd year of Qianlong in Qing Dynasty, and died in the 7th year of Daoguang in Qing Dynasty. He began to cultivate tea in hualiping of wujiatai in his youth, and produced "white tea" with many unique advantages, such as sweet taste, clear green and bright soup color, and ripe chestnut fragrance.
