In September 1958, huashaoying commune was established in huashaoying Town, belonging to Yu County.

In May 1961, the huashaoying commune in Yangyuan County was divided into Gaoqiang commune, Jinjiazhuang commune, Shixia commune (Nihewan commune) and datianwa commune.

In March 1984, huashaoying commune was changed into huashaoying township; in May of the same year, huashaoying township was changed into huashaoying town.

In January 1996, Nihewan township was merged into huashaoying town.
