Sumuxi Yao nationality township
Sumuxi Yao township is located in the southeast of Chenxi County, adjacent to Simeng Township and tongxihe township of Xupu County in the East, luozishan Yao Township in the south, Huangxikou town in the West and houtang Yao Township in the north. The township government is located in sumuxi village, 98 kilometers away from Chenyang town. The total area of the township is 54.87 square kilometers (2017), including 5783 mu of cultivated land (4793 mu of paddy field and 900 mu of dry land), 72844 mu of mountainous area, and the forest coverage rate is 72%.
Historical evolution
The Yao nationality living in sumuxi is one of the earliest nationalities in the upper reaches of Yuanshui river. During the period of the Republic of China, it belonged to Taihe Township of Chenxi County. He built sumuxi Township in 1953. when the communization was carried out in 1958, it belonged to rocket commune. In June 1959, each commune was named after its residence, and rocket commune was renamed luozishan commune. He separated from luozishan commune in 1961 and established sumuxi commune. On January 11, 1982, baiyanxi and Pingding were assigned to luozishan commune. the name of the township was restored in March 1984. On January 31, 1989, with the approval of the people's Government of Hunan Province, sumuxi township was withdrawn and sumuxi Yao township was established. In 1993, Pingding village of luozishan Yao nationality township returned to sumuxi Yao nationality township, and sumuxi assigned chayuanping to houtang Yao nationality township.

In 1995, there were 2051 households with 8504 people.
