After the impoundment, more than 20000 mu of reservoir water surface was formed. The township properly resettled immigrants, built reservoirs and fishing dams, guided farmers to use the reservoir to develop aquaculture, promoted fine varieties of rice, and developed small fruits, making the township a "land of fish and rice" in Yuanling. There are living cubic timber reserves of 68000 square meters, mainly pine, fir and cypress, and economic forests of chestnut, tea and tung oil trees. There are 2300 mu dapingtingzishang and dahujie forest farm and 1000 mu Xiaojiaqiao Wuqiangxi Yinfeng organic tea farm. The mineral resources are mainly gold reserves. From the 1980s to the impoundment of Wuqiangxi power station, Malu and jinchangxi were once important gold producing areas in Yuanling County. After Wuqiangxi impoundment, most of the main gold producing areas were submerged, only Jinniushan gold mine was left. Jinniushan gold mine is now a county-level medium-sized enterprise in the township.
The main grain production in the township is rice, with a paddy field area of 7388 mu. Daping village is the main grain producing area of the township. With the popularization of the technology of throwing rice seedlings with floppy disks, super rice is widely planted in the township. Other agricultural and sideline products are: soybean, sweet potato, corn, rape, peanut, etc. Small fruit and aquatic products are two new pillar industries after Wuqiangxi Hydropower Station is built. Navel orange, orange, chestnut, red bayberry, peach and plum are the most widely cultivated small fruits. By the end of 2005, more than 800 mu of navel oranges, 1200 mu of oranges and 500 mu of pomelo have been developed. Among them, navel oranges are new local specialties in the agricultural development of Xiaojiaqiao Township, mainly Hujia village and jialiping village, with an annual output of more than 1.5 million jin. They have been sold in batches both inside and outside the province, becoming a well-known navel orange town. At the same time, the township makes full use of abundant water resources. On the one hand, it fully develops aquaculture, mainly by means of net cage, population feeding and fishing. There are 3000 net cages and 3 stocking reservoirs. The main fish species are channel catfish and Wuchang fish. The water area of zhoujiaxi dam is more than 5000 mu, with an annual output of more than 600 tons and a fishery income of more than 10 million yuan. On the other hand, actively develop tourism. Taking advantage of the beautiful scenery and vast water surface of the reservoir area, the township vigorously develops fishermen's leisure and fishing tourism.
