Mosha town belongs to Xinping Yi and Dai Autonomous County, Yuxi City, Yunnan Province. It is located in the east foot of Ailao Mountains, the middle and upper reaches of the Red River, and the southwest of Xinping County. It borders Pingdian Township in the northeast, Yangwu town in the southeast, Donge town in Yuanjiang County in the south, Jianxing Township and Pingzhang Township in the southwest, and Jiasa town in the northwest.
With a total area of 684 square kilometers, Mosha town has 15 administrative villages and 3 communities with a total population of 45696 (in 2017). In 2014, the town's GDP was 79596 million yuan.
The terrain of Mosha town is high from east to west and low in the middle. It has a subtropical monsoon climate with sufficient light and heat. Its characteristic agricultural products include off-season balsam pear, Xini brown sugar, litchi, mango, watermelon, etc.
Historical evolution
When Mosha town was in Dali state of Song Dynasty, it was a part of Malang (Dragon) and belonged to Weichu prefecture (now Chuxiong). in the Yuan Dynasty, it was established as 2000 households in the reign of emperor Xianzong of the Yuan Dynasty (1251-1259 A.D.), which was subordinate to wanhufu in ningzhou (now Huaning). Later, it was changed into malondian and Talang (now Xinhua) erdian, which were the lands of malondian and Yuanjiang wanhufu. In the 13th year of the Yuan Dynasty (1276 A.D.), malondian and other officials were in charge of the people and set up a division in talangdian (Xinhua), which was under the jurisdiction of Yuanjiang mansion. in the Ming Dynasty, in the early Hongwu Period of the Ming Dynasty, it was changed into the Chief Secretary of malontalangdian (the governor was still in Xinhua), which was under the jurisdiction of the governor and directly under the Yunnan provincial government; in the eighth year of the Hongzhi period of the Ming Dynasty (1495 AD), the Chief Secretary of malontalangdian was abolished, which was changed into Xinhua Prefecture, which was under the jurisdiction of Lin'an prefecture (now Jianshui). in the Qing Dynasty, in the fourth year of Kangxi (1665 AD), Xinhua Prefecture was reduced to Xinping, which was under the jurisdiction of Lin'an Prefecture; in the third year of Qianlong (1738 AD), the village group of wabaiguo in Liming Village also set up the hereditary Tuqian general, and the village group of Tadan in Guansheng Village (original site) set up the tuba general; from the first year of Xuantong (1909 AD) to the 21st year of the Republic of China (1932 AD), it was divided into the Southern District. (1933-1935) was called the third district. From 1936-1948, it was changed to Mosha Township and Zhenwu township. In September 1949, the Southern District set up the district and township government. In November 1950, the Southern District was changed into the Fourth District, and the jurisdiction remained unchanged. In December 1958, the four districts were divided into two people's communes. In February 1959, the first and second people's society merged into Mosha people's commune. In September 1960, Mosha commune was transformed into Mosha farm. In May 1961, the farm was changed into the people's commune, the management area was changed into the brigade, and it was adjusted into two communes. In 1962, Mosha commune and manbeng commune were merged into the Fourth District, and the brigade was renamed the small commune. In May 1968, the district reform committee was established. In March 1970, the district was changed into the people's commune reform committee, and the small commune was changed into the brigade reform committee. from the winter of 1983 to the beginning of 1984, after the reform of district and township system, the Mosha commune was changed into the Mosha district. In 1987, the desert area was changed into desert village. In September 1996, desert area was changed into desert town.
