Liangting'ao township was established in 1956, liangting'ao commune was established in 1958, and it was merged into huangjin'ao commune in the same year. Liangting'ao commune was restored in 1961, and liangting'ao township was renamed in 1984. It has jurisdiction over eight administrative villages, including haocaiping, dengjiachong, luojiaxi, yinjialing, caojiapo, yangdiping, Dazhulin and Yangtan, with 103 villager groups and 16759 people (2017).
