Gaoxi town

Gaoxi town water diversion is located in the middle of Lengshuitan district and the West Bank of Xiangjiang River. The town government is 18 kilometers away from Lengshuitan city. It is adjacent to huangyangsi town and zhushanqiao town in the East, shanglingqiao town and Shanhu Township in the south, Dong'an County in the west, niujiaoba town and puliqiao town in the north.

Gaoxi town is rich in water resources. Shixi River, Luxi River and Xiangjiang River flow through the town. Lu Huang highway, lengpu highway and Hunan Guangxi railway run through the whole territory. Shaoyong highway and S217 provincial highway cross the border. The proposed high-grade highway from Maping interchange to Qiyang also passes through Gaoxi town. The Xiangjiang River is navigable all the year round, with convenient water and land transportation.

Historical evolution

The town uses the natural place name of Gaoxi city. Located on the Bank of the Xiangjiang River, the terrain is high. There is a high stream flowing into the Xiangjiang River in the east of the village. Because of the convenient transportation, it is a famous commercial port along the Xiangjiang River, so it is named. During the reign of the Kuomintang, it was named "gaoxisi" and "Taihe Township" successively. At the beginning of liberation, Gaoxi City, Yanliu, Liutang, youzhatou, Pukou, xianghuaba, yijiaqiao and other seven townships were set up in the territory. In 1958, liming people's commune was set up when the people's commune was transformed. When the system was restored in 1960, niujiaoba people's commune was under the jurisdiction of puliqiao District, yijiaqiao and Gaoxi people's commune were under the jurisdiction of huangyangsi District, and changed to Gaoxi City Township and yijiaqiao Township in 1984. There is a wooden bridge on the Shixi River in the village. It is said that an immortal supported it in ancient times, so it is called fuqioba. A three meter high top Pagoda with five sides and six corners is built on the bridge deck to commemorate it.
