Ganyi Town, formerly known as "Qingtan", is located in the southeast of Tianmen City, bordering tianerhe town of Hanchuan City in the East, Mawan town in the west, Chenhu ecological agriculture demonstration area of Tianmen Industrial Park (Duoxiang town) in the south, Huayan lake fishing ground in the north and Jingtan Township in the northeast, 28 km away from Tianmen City. It covers an area of 82 square kilometers (2017), and now has jurisdiction over two neighborhood committees, guqingtan and Wenchangge, 30 administrative villages and 295 villager groups, with a total population of 57341 (2017).

History and culture

Ganyi was called gantan and Qingtan in ancient times. In Ming Dynasty, it was called Qingtan and gantan. In Yongzheng period of Qing Dynasty, it was renamed ganzhen. Ganyi, for short, is still in use today and is a millennium old town. Ganyi town is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese. There are nearly ten thousand overseas Chinese living abroad. Historical evolution

Ancient times

Ganyi is a famous town in Dongxiang of Tianmen with a long history. In ancient times, it was a water beach on the northern edge of yunmengze, where fishermen sometimes came to dry and cook in sunny weather. Over time, this nameless beach has been called "Qingtan" according to its natural characteristics and functions. So later generations often call it "guqingtan". It is said that in the Shang Dynasty, it had become a dry beach not to be flooded in the north of the Han River. More and more people came here to settle down and engage in fishing, firewood, animal husbandry and farming. It led the passing ships to anchor here, stay overnight, supplement food and charcoal, and exchange goods. Therefore, people call it "dry beach" according to other physiognomy features. With the expansion of the scope of exchange, the number of people participating in the exchange increased, and the exchange places gradually became fixed, thus forming the early market. In the early Song Dynasty, the market town developed to a considerable scale and became an important commercial port on the Bank of the Han River. According to the system of the town, it was called "gantan town" for short. In 1477, the inspection department was set up here. In 1484, a post station was set up here, which was initially called "Qingtan post" and later renamed "gantan post". In 1726, it was renamed "ganzhenyi", which is also called "ganyi" for convenience.
