Guaihe town

Guaihe Town, Fangcheng County, is located in the northern edge of Nanyang Basin, the southern foot of Funiu Mountain, the junction of Nanyang and Pingdingshan, and the junction of Fangcheng, Lushan and Yexian counties. Because of the important tributary of Huaihe River, Lihe River passes through the border. Lihe River follows the mountain curve, also known as Guaihe. The town now governs 35 administrative villages with a population of 32342 (2017) and a total area of 179.2 square kilometers (2017).

Guaihe has a long history and profound culture. In the Western Zhou Dynasty, Guaihe belonged to the territory of the state of ZA, and the silk industry began. In the Tang Dynasty, Guaihe handicraft industry and smelting industry rose. There are baixiugou and yinqiandong lead mining and alchemy sites. Poet Li Bai once visited the former residence of Gao Feng, a famous scholar in the Han Dynasty, and left five poems of Jiang Jin Jiu. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the silk weaving industry flourished here, merchants gathered in Shaanxi, Shanxi, Shandong and Henan, and merchants in Shaanxi and Shanxi built guildhalls, which was one of the four major market towns in Fangcheng county.
