Siguqiao Township

Siguqiao township is located in the northern suburb of Yushan County, Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province, covering an area of 75 square kilometers. It governs 13 administrative villages, 93 villager groups, 119 natural villages, with a total population of 28000. Siguqiao township is the only way to the national scenic spot - North Mountain of Sanqing mountain. It is the national second-class highway Yuhua line (Yushan to Kaihua Huashan in Zhejiang Province), 320 national highway, and 311 national highway from Shanghai to Ruili in Yunnan Province Liwen expressway runs through the township.

Origin of township name

Siguqiao, formerly known as siguqiao, is located at the downstream of dalingjiaoshui, a tributary of Jinsha River, nine kilometers away from the county seat. This bridge was originally a single span arch bridge made of red stone. Due to its large slope and narrow deck, it is not suitable for traffic. Now it has been rebuilt into a single span arch bridge of concrete structure with a length of 27 meters and a width of 7 meters.

It is said that during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, there was no bridge here. Every time the water rose in the flood season, people on both sides of the Strait suffered from the risk of wading. One day, four girls from Daye of BEIXIANG came to visit the county. When they passed by, they happened to encounter the rising water. They were afraid to cross the river, so they paid someone to carry them. Unexpectedly, the water was fast and the stone was slippery, and her husband fell into the water, which almost drowned a girl. Fortunately, she was saved quickly and survived.

Later, the four girls discussed with each other. In order to make it convenient for other pedestrians to cross the river, they were willing to donate a sum of money they had saved from weaving hemp for many years to build a stone bridge. As the news spread, the local people who were deeply moved by the spirit of the four women also raised money to help build the bridge. Soon, the stone bridge was built. In order to make the future generations not forget the kindness of the four girls, the craftsmen erected two bluestone tablets inside the bridge hole, one engraved with "Sigu bridge" and the other engraved with "Sigu Shanqing bridge".
