Gaoxi Township

Gaoxi township is located in the middle of Luoxiao mountains in the west of Yongxin County, Ji'an City, Jiangxi Province, 44 kilometers away from the county seat. It is a marginal mountainous area at the junction of Lianhua County, Yongxin County and Chaling County, Hunan Province. It covers an area of 120 square kilometers, governs eight administrative regions, and has a permanent population of 19024 (2017). The territory is rich in gypsum, limestone, iron ore and other mineral deposits and pine, fir, bamboo and other forest resources. The mining company has an annual output of 30000-50000 tons of iron ore, a forest area of 70000 mu, an orchard area of 860 mu, and a forest coverage rate of 75%. Gaoxi township has a long history. It is known as "Gaokeng water flows from the west to Chaoyi". There are many historic sites. There are 10 ancient bridges built in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Among the historic sites, one ancient tower, three ancient nunneries and 100 ancient ancestral temples are shortlisted as "100 new discoveries in the third national cultural relics survey of Jiangxi Province".

Historical evolution

The township is named after its residence. Gaoxi, Xinling, Longtan and Nankeng were four townships in 1949, and Gaoxi was built by merging Xinling, Longtan and Gaoxi in 1956. In 1958, it belonged to Bihu commune, known as Gaoxi management area. The commune was established in 1961 and the township was changed in 1983. In 1997, it covers an area of 85.6 square kilometers and has a population of 9000. It governs 15 administrative villages including Gaoxi, Zhuxi, Zhengshan, Wuyuan, Dawu, Longtan, houshangen, cenfengsi, Baiyan, huangtangyao, Guanyao, nankengkou, cangkeng, cenkou and lanshantou. Shishi village is located in the west end of Gaoxi Township, connected with Lianhua sanbanqiao in the West. There are 383 households in the village, with a population of more than 1800.
