Shexi Town, subordinate to Shangyou County, Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province, is located in the East and north of the county, 21 kilometers away from the county. It is a central town of Shangyou County, known as "the land of fish and rice". It is only 13 kilometers away from Hengshi intersection of Jiangxi Guangdong Expressway. The area is 128.72 square kilometers, and the registered residence is about 37 thousand and 100 people (2018). It has 1 communities and 16 administrative villages (2019).

History and culture

The origin of the name

Shexi, a famous town in Shangyou, has a local saying of "toutangjiang, eryingqian and sanshexi". It was built in the late Song Dynasty. On the day when the polder was spread, an eagle caught a snake and flew by. It happened to fall on the polder, so it was called snake polder. During the reign of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty, the polder site was destroyed by floods. In 1876, it was relocated and rebuilt.
