History and culture

According to historical records, Xincheng town was built in 841, the first year of Huichang of emperor Wuzong of Tang Dynasty, with a history of more than 1160 years. Xincheng was once known as "Xincheng", "Shilin" and "Xinxi". It is said that the name of "new city" began when the city was built in the spring and Autumn period. Until the Tang Dynasty, the town was still called "new town". Since the Tang and Song Dynasties, the name has been known for a long time, sometimes called "Xincheng", which was first seen in the Song Dynasty.

"Cheng" is also called "dike". Because the low villages suffered from the flood, they built "Cheng" to resist it, so "Cheng" was called "city". In the late Qing Dynasty, Xincheng was named in order to distinguish it from other place names. Xincheng is called "Shilin" because it is located in Shilin township. Xincheng Town, from Tang Dynasty to Qing Dynasty, was located in Shilin township. The township was named after the production of persimmon, and the town was nicknamed Shilin.

The name of "Xinxi" was often seen in the Qing Dynasty. The preface to Xinxi's early notes records that Xincheng "originates from Tianmu, and there is water around the town, so it is called" Xinxi ". The inscription of Nengren Temple written by Cai Lianbi in Shunzhi of the Qing Dynasty also states: "twenty seven miles northwest of Jiajun County, there are many people wandering around, and the people are turning around. Xina dew, north of Lanxi, converges into a town, which is named Xinxi." So Xincheng is also called "Xinxi".

In May 1949, Xincheng was liberated and the people's Government of Xincheng town was established.

In May 1951, Xincheng was upgraded to a town directly under the county. After Jiaxing County, Jiaxing City, Jiaxing Suburb People's government.

In July 1992, Xinnong township was merged into Xincheng town. In May 1998, Taoyuan Township and Bazi Township were merged into Xincheng town.

On April 26, 2001, zhezhenghan No. 63 approved the adjustment of the administrative divisions of Xiuzhou District in Jiaxing City: Luodong Township and Gaozhao Township were abolished, and some administrative regions (5 villages) of former Luodong Township and Gaozhao Township were merged into Xincheng town; one village of Xincheng town and other administrative regions (5 villages and 1 residence) of former Gaozhao Township were directly under the jurisdiction of Xiuzhou District government.
