Liaonan Township
Liaonan Township, under the jurisdiction of Lushan City, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, is located in the southeast of Lushan City, bordering Poyang Lake in the southeast, facing Yongxiu county and Duchang County across the lake, Jiaotang town in the west, Hualin town and Xingzi town in the north. The township is 18.8 kilometers long from north to South and 8.5 kilometers wide from east to west, with a cultivated area of 1113.3 hectares. It is a hilly area with high terrain in the East and low terrain in the West. It has 9 village committees, 68 villager groups and 99 natural villages with a population of 20848 (2017).
In January 2002, Liaonan Township and Xinchi Township merged into a new Liaonan township.
Historical evolution
From the song and Yuan Dynasties to the middle of the Qing Dynasty, Liaonan township was divided into three capitals. In 1932, the Baojia system was implemented, and Liaonan township was under the jurisdiction of zhanghanling, the first district. In 1945, the township was officially divided into Liaonan Township, which got its name because it was located in the south of the Polygonum flower pool. In 1950, Baojia was abolished. Five districts and 50 townships (towns) were established in Xingzi County. Liaonan township was divided into Qiaonan township (Second District), Tuanjie Township, Jianshe Township, Limin Township, Heping Township, Minzhu Township and Xinmin Township (Third District). In 1956, the district and township were merged into Liaonan Township and Xinchi township. In 1958, Liaonan Township and Xinchi Township were merged into Liaonan people's commune. In 1962, Liaonan commune set aside the original Xinchi township to form Xinchi commune. In 1968, Xinchi commune was merged into Liaonan commune. In 1972, Xinchi was set aside from Liaonan, still known as Xinchi commune. In 1984, communes were changed into townships, production teams into villagers' committees, and production teams into villagers' groups. In January 2002, Liaonan Township and Xinchi Township merged into a new Liaonan township. In 2005, Liaonan Township had 9 villagers' committees, including hegongtang, nanyangfan, changxiling, huangjiulong, Qiaonan, Xinchi, Xinhua, Hengling and Zhuxi, 68 villagers' groups and 99 natural villages, with a population of 26766.

Liaonan township is composed of Liaonan Township, Xinchi Township and most of Benghu township (fishing village) at the end of last century. The township now governs nine administrative villages, including hegongtang, nanyangban, changxiling, huangjiulong, Qiaonan, Xinchi, Xinhua, Hengling, Zhuxi, and 99 natural villages with a population of 20848 (2017); 18145 mu of cultivated land, including 8041 mu of paddy field and 10104 mu of dry land. The five major water systems of Poyang Lake are dujialong and Zhuxi in the southeast of the rural area, and between Yanglan and Duchang master temple.

Liaonan township is the most active cultural place in Lushan city. It has strong folk customs and is ancient and unique. It often carries out folk activities such as dragon boat race, kite race and bullfight in Caozhou. In the 1970s, there were cultural performance teams in every village. Now the village has organized a poetry club, and the next year it publishes Sandu poetry, with rich and colorful folk tunes and gongs and drums. A number of literary and artistic leaders have now become part of the cultural backbone of Lushan city. Xihe opera is very popular here. Farmers like to perform Xihe opera in local dialect during festivals. The play has now become a national excellent traditional cultural heritage.
