Huacao town
Huacao town is located in the north of Minhang District and the South Bank of Wusong River. It is connected with Changning District and Xinjing town in the East, Xujing town in Qingpu District in the west, Xinhong street in the south, Wusong River in the north and Jiangqiao town in Jiading District across the river. The town covers an area of 28.2 square kilometers, with a permanent resident population of 160753 (in 2017), and the town government is stationed at 228 JiZhai road.
Historical evolution
In the early Song Dynasty, the lower reaches of Wusong River were blocked, and the water transportation was diverted. In the early Yuan Dynasty, the market was gradually formed by the Caohe River. In the Hongzhi period of Ming Dynasty, the market was formed by the trade of many foreign merchants. Because it is located in Huating County, it was named after the water transportation center. In the early Qing Dynasty, the Wusong River was dredged, and the commercial market declined sharply. In the Jiaqing period, it was called Huacao City, and in the Tongzhi period, it was called "the market was quiet".
In 1942 (31 years of the Republic of China), during the Japanese puppet "Qingxiang" period, the grain market set up stalls.
In 1949, there were 41 shops with 46 employees, including 9 Yanshi shops, 4 Xianrou shops, 4 barber shops, 3 restaurants, 3 teahouses and 3 drugstores. In the 1950s, it was reduced to more than 10.

In the late 1970s, the shops gradually moved to the intersection of Beizhai road and Wucao Road, with multi-storey buildings. The old streets are becoming more and more deserted. In the northwest of the town, there is the Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences, which was originally located in the "Zhongzheng camp" of the "military training" of Shanghai college students in the 1930s. There are 74 bus routes and 189 bus routes to Xinjing Town, Qibao town and Xinzhuang Town respectively.
Huacao is named after yuncaohe in Huating county. From the founding of Shanghai county in 1292 to the founding of new Minhang District in 1992, Huacao (including Zhuzhai and Jiwang) had jurisdiction over Shanghai, Huating (later changed to Songjiang), Qingpu and Jiading. Since 1992, it belongs to new Minhang District.
On October 8, 2000, with the approval of Shanghai Municipal People's government, Huacao Town, Zhuzhai town and Jiwang town were abolished and a new Huacao town was built. In 2010, Hongqiao transportation hub was relocated, and 10 villages including taojiajiao and 5 neighborhood committees including Huacao were assigned to Xinhong street.
Today's Huacao town is mainly composed of Zhuzhai town and Jiwang town. Most of the old Huacao town has been demolished and built into Hongqiao Airport Terminal 2, railway Hongqiao Station and Hongqiao Business District. In addition, Huamei community and Aibo home are under the jurisdiction of Xinhong street, not Huacao town.

In October 2017, it has jurisdiction over 16 villages (Huacao, Xupu, wangnibang, yangjiaxiang, Weixing, Zhaojia, zhujiajing, xinjianong, xiaowangmiao, Jiwang, Hongwei, Jiushan, Jidong, Jixi, chenjiajiao, shipilong), 13 residents committees (Huacao, Huacao town Er, Shamao, Ziwei new village, zhuxinlu, Zhuzhai, jinfengcheng first, Jiwang, yinxingxincun, meilinyuan, Nanhua) Road, Huacao Town, three, nine rhymes). Future development
Shanghai New Hongqiao International Medical Center, which will be built soon in the town, is a high-end and international health care service park approved by Shanghai Municipal People's government. It covers an area of 1500 mu, with the first phase development of 600 mu.
According to the relevant planning guidance of the municipal health and Family Planning Commission, it is planned to form a "1 + 7 + X" layout of one medical technology center, seven high-end hospitals and several characteristic outpatient clinics, with a bed size of about 1900. In addition, the clinical medical center of Huashan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University will be built in the adjacent plot, with the focus on neurosurgery and other advantageous disciplines, which will complement the medical service mode of the park to meet different market demands.
