Xiangdong Town, located in the north of Xiangdong District, Pingxiang City, Jiangxi Province, is the seat of Xiangdong district government. It covers an area of 64.03 square kilometers (2017) and has a population of 72631 (2017). It has jurisdiction over 7 neighborhood committees and 18 administrative villages.

Xiangdong Town, a well-known "goat town" in China, is adjacent to the economic zones of Chang, Zhu and tan in Hunan Province and the west gate of Jiangxi Province. The town covers an area of 64.03 square kilometers (2017) and has a population of 72631 (2017). It has jurisdiction over 7 neighborhood committees, including qianhoujie, xiajie, Liushi, shizhupo, Heyetang, changpoli and shanpoli, and 18 administrative villages, including Xinlong, Jiangkou, huangtang, Heping, dajiangbian, Juyuan, quantang, Yanggan, Daotian, Wusi, Hezhou, Yusheng, Huanghua, Meijian, Xinmei, Wuli, Zhangli and Ganquan. The town government is located in Xiangquan East Road. Zhejiang Jiangxi railway, 320 National Road transit. Pingshui River flows through the territory.
Xiangdong town has a warm climate, rich soil, fertilizer and water, lush vegetation and abundant forage resources, which is rich in goats. Xiangdong is known as "granary at the foot of the mountain and sheep farm at the top of the mountain". Xiangdong has superior geographical position and convenient transportation. Zhejiang Jiangxi double track railway, national highway 320 and Shanghai Ruizhou Expressway run through the whole area, weaving a traffic network to speed up the development of eastern Hunan. In 2003, the GDP of the whole region reached 1.948 billion yuan.

Historical evolution
Xiangdong town was established in 1949, Xiangdong commune was established in 1958, and Xiangdong town was restored in 1961. In 2003, quantian township was merged into xiashankou sub district office.
Attachment: quantian township is located in the northeast of eastern Hunan. The township government is located in Wuli Village, 2km away from the district government. Zhejiang Jiangxi railway and 320 national highway pass through the territory. The historic site has Caoyuan cave. It was quantian Township in 1949, Xiangdong commune in 1958, Xiangdong town in 1968, and quantian Agricultural Science Institute in Xiangdong District in 1970. Quantian township was rebuilt in 1986, with jurisdiction over six villages of Zhangli, qingni, Ganquan, penxing, Wuli and LiuTian. In 1997, it covers an area of 12.5 square kilometers and has a population of 9000. It has jurisdiction over four administrative villages, namely Wuli, LiuTian, Zhangli and Ganquan. On September 4, 2003, quantian township was abolished and the construction system was put under the jurisdiction of Xiangdong town.
natural resources
East Hunan is abundant in rainfall and water resources. There are Pingshui River and caoshui River in the territory. There are more than 560 species of wild animals in four categories: birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles. Among them, the key protected animals are the eagle cuckoo, monkey faced eagle, water deer and leopard. There are 368 kinds of woody plants, more than 260 kinds of medicinal woody plants in 88 families, and the precious trees are Taxus, sandalwood, ginkgo, etc. Rich in mineral resources, mainly coal, limestone, iron ore, clay ore, and more reserves, high grade.
economic construction
Agriculture mainly produces rice and vegetables. There are Pingxiang Iron and steel plant, Pingxiang Power Plant, Pingxiang paper mill, Juyuan coal mine and other provincial and municipal enterprises. Township enterprises have more than 30 coal, dolomite, cement, calcium carbonate, plastic, industrial porcelain, food and other factories. In 1995, the Ministry of Civil Affairs awarded the title of "China's township star".
The local industry in eastern Hunan started early and developed rapidly. In 1983, it became the first town in Jiangxi Province whose industrial output value exceeded 100 million yuan. After years of development, to the beginning of the 21st century has formed a ceramic, coal, building materials, chemical industry as the four pillars of the industrial system. Xiangdong is the hometown of industrial ceramics. It is one of the most important production bases of industrial ceramics in China. Its product share accounts for 70% of the whole country, and has been exported to more than 20 countries, such as the United States, Britain, Germany and Australia. It enjoys a high reputation for its variety, good quality and low price.
Cultural construction
Xiangdong has a profound cultural heritage. There are many talents in fine arts, calligraphy, music and dance, drama performance, Nuo dance performance and so on. They have been successively named as "the hometown of modern folk painting", "the hometown of peasant brass band music" and "the hometown of Nuo culture" by the Ministry of culture and the provincial Department of culture. Modern education in eastern Hunan has developed rapidly. By the beginning of the 21st century, it has built a large education pattern of general education, vocational education, adult education and rural education, and won the honor of "national advanced township of double basic work".
