HONGPU town is subordinate to Huaining County, Anhui Province. It is located in the southwest of Huaining County, adjacent to Yueshan town and Shankou township of Daguan District in the East, Haikou town and Wanhe farm of Daguan district across the river in the south, Jiangzhen town and Qinghe Township in the west, Shijing Township and Huangdun town in the north.
HONGPU town has a total area of 84.82 square kilometers, under the jurisdiction of one community and 12 administrative villages, with a total population of 36328 (2017). HONGPU town has a subtropical monsoon climate, and its agriculture is mainly rice, cotton and rape. It is a semi hilly and shallow mountain area and a semi polder and fan area, surrounded by three shallow mountains, with jinjibei, Putuo temple and other cultural relics.
Historical evolution
During the period of the Republic of China, today HONGPU area belongs to Sanqiao district. At the beginning of the people's Republic of China, there were seven townships in Hongzhen District, namely Hongzhen, Shiku, Songyan, Wuqiao, Sanling, Chang'an and Huangshan. Jianhong town and Yangshan Township were built in 1957. Hongzhen commune was established in 1958. In 1983, Hongzhen commune was changed into Hongzhen township. in 1992, the district was withdrawn and the township was merged, and HONGPU town was established.

Cattle lantern show
"Niudeng opera" is a folk opera singing form in Huaining County. Niudeng is only the prelude of the opera, and the earlier singing speech is also the material of "Changdeng". However, it combines the tunes of Beijing opera, Yue opera, huidiao opera and huaiqiang opera, and specially performs the story of yuchigong, a famous general of Tang Dynasty. The usual performance situation is as follows: every spring and summer night, tie a buffalo with black paper and go to the village to perform by burning candles; the cattle frame is made of bamboo and wood structure, four wooden wheels are installed under the plow and rake, the cattle body is bound by bamboo pieces, and the paper is pasted outside; the plow and rake are tied with yoke on the neck and dragged with bamboo strips. There are two kinds of libretto in the repertoire: long and short sentences and Qiyan. The former has ancient meaning and seems to be a divertimento.
Cultural relics
Jinji stele
Located in the east of Jinji village, HONGPU Town, the Jinji stele is 1.1 meters high and 0.75 meters wide. It is carved from white stone. The text of the stele is "the God of integrity of the order of Jinji society", with the words "day" and "month" on both sides. The first section is entitled "worship of all living beings in gengxu year old and winter moon", and the second section is the name of 25 people, including "benshe", "Xinguan", "Xinshi" and "Shengtang" Yang Wentang; The edge of the stele is engraved with twigs, and the inscription is engraved in regular script. In July 1986, Anhui Provincial People's government announced it as a key cultural relics protection unit at the provincial level.
Putuo Temple
Putuo temple, built in the Ming Dynasty, stands in front of the Xueshan cave in the south of HONGPU town. It is a hard mountain building with a total construction area of about 300 square meters and faces north and south. There are two three Bay Buddhist halls, separated by a patio. The main hall leads directly to the mountain well, and the temple gate turns westward between the two halls. Putuo temple was built in 1852. Since 1990, the number of Buddha statues has increased year by year. Many opening ceremonies have been held, and the dizang king hall and Daxiong hall have been expanded. Putuo temple is a key cultural relic protection unit in Huaining County.
