Jiyang (formerly known as Tongyang) town in Chaohu City is named after Jiyang river. Jiyang River, formerly known as Tonghe River, originates from the southern foot of Tongshan mountain in Feidong County. Yanghe River, formerly known as Yanghe River, originates from Yangzi mountain in the west of the town. The two rivers meet in the south of the town, forming Tongyang River and flowing into Chaohu Lake. Because the town often suffered from floods, the people in order to avoid floods, intended to fire to overcome the water, Tongyang River "Tong" and "Yang" next to the wood character, changed to fire character, formed today's "Jiyang River". Jiyang town is located on the North Bank of Chaohu Lake, at the junction of county-level Chaohu City and Hefei city. It is 25 km away from Chaohu City in the East and 35 km away from Hefei City in the west, with obvious geographical advantages. Huainan railway, S105 provincial road, lakeside tourism express channel and Beijing Fuzhou high speed railway pass through the area.
With an area of 159.53 square kilometers (2017), the town has 17 villages (communities) under its jurisdiction and a population of 62111 people (2017). It is one of the first batch of pilot towns of "expanding power and strengthening town" in Anhui Province and has a sub county-level system. Jiyang town has a long history, outstanding people and profound culture. It is the hometown of legendary General Li Kenong. The buildings of Ming and Qing Dynasties, Jiyang old street and Li Hongzhang pawnshop, reflect the unique history of Jiyang town. Historical evolution
Jiyang commune was set up in 1958 and changed to township in 1983. In 1992, Jiyang Town, Jiyang Township and Qiyang Township were merged into Jiyang town. In 1996, it covers an area of 81.5 square kilometers and has a population of 37000. It has jurisdiction over 25 administrative villages and Jiyang neighborhood committee, including qiongyang, Yaowang, Huaihe, Guotuan, Bagui, Yongfeng, Chaoyang, Shanqiao, Huainan, daiqiao, Dagao, Shuguang, Nanhong, Madao, Longxi, Xinhua, Baogang, Qiyang, guidao, Baowei, Chaohu, Xisong, tangzui, Zhongli, Jizhong.
Huaji commune was established in 1961, changed to township in 1983, and merged into Fenghuang Township in 1992. In 1996, it covers an area of 66.3 square kilometers and has a population of 26000. It governs 19 administrative villages including Yangang, Dasu, Huaji, Xihua, Shangyang, Xixiao, Gushan, Taihe, Qingjing, Dacheng, Wulian, Xinmin, qinqiao, Fenghuang, Juntang, Liangxiang, Chengshan, Sanfen and Heyu.

A legend
Qiongyanghe town is located on the North Bank of Chaohu Lake, between Chaohu and Hefei, 25 km away from Chaohu City and 30 km away from Hefei city. Huainan railway, Heyu, miaozhong highway and Binhu Avenue pass through the town.
After the ancient city of Chaozhou fell into Chaohu Lake, the surviving people chose to live at the mouth of Jiyang River to live and multiply. Qiongyang town can be traced back to the Qin and Han Dynasties. According to historical records, it was built in the Chunxi period of the Southern Song Dynasty (1174-1189), with a history of nearly a thousand years.
Although it was formed earlier, it flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and formed a certain scale. During the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty, it was a prosperous period with a permanent population of nearly 5000. It was an important commercial distribution center in Xixiang of Chaoxian county at that time.
There are four streets and six alleys in the town, namely north-south Main Street, East Street, Qiaodong street, Nantou street, Chajia lane, Lijia lane, Liujia lane, Jinjia lane, Bajia lane, Luojia lane, Xujia lane, etc. the streets are paved with bluestone slabs, and the houses in the old streets are of brick and wood structure, with bluebrick and tile trough doors, front shops and back lanes. Most of the buildings are two-story pavilions. By the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, there were more than 300 shops in the town, such as shops in Beijing, Guangzhou, ZA, Shan and so on, workshops for weaving, milling, sugar, grains and so on, as well as bamboo and wood shops, teahouses and restaurants, lvzhan opera Garden, ancestral hall pawnshops, factory craftsmen shops and so on,
There are "zuyiyuan", "yitaihe", "Changchun Garden", "Qinghe garden" and a number of well-known time-honored shops, which are very popular. In the 29th year of the Republic of China (1940), Mr. Zhang Zhizhong went back to his hometown for the first time to visit his relatives. He held a five table banquet at letaoxuan restaurant in Jiyang town.
The two most famous dishes of Jiyang are big dish dried silk and pickled meat roll. Big dish dried silk is made of dried rice, thousand pieces and peanuts with Chinese toon and red pepper. Pickled meat roll is made of tofu skin and thousand pieces. After deep frying, it is eaten with a small dish dipped in vinegar, which makes people have endless aftertaste.
The traditional food in Jiyang town is fried lion's head, which is different from the usual lion's head. It is to press the dough into a pancake, cut it into sections with a knife, and then knead it into a roll by hand. After the roll is steamed and cooled, it is fried in warm oil. After it turns pale yellow, it is fried with slow fire. All the inside noodles are deep fried. It tastes delicious.
Jiyang's most famous food is "Yipin Yudai cake". It is based on glutinous rice, walnut kernel, green plum meat, preserved Osmanthus fragrans, kumquat, sugar, sesame oil as the main ingredients, refined with a unique "four inlays" method.
It is said that in the early Ming Dynasty, Yu Tonghai, an important founding minister and Chaohu native who was granted the title of "Yu Guogong" by Zhu Yuanzhang, returned home in fine clothes. He took a boat to Yuxikou and met Zhou Dashan, a young salt merchant with beautiful features and dignified demeanor. They had a good talk. When Yu Tonghai learned that Zhou Dashan was still unmarried, he betrothed his beloved daughter to him. Shortly after Yu Tonghai returned to his hometown and returned to Nanjing, his arrow wound recurred and he was dying. Zhu Yuanzhang went to see him and asked him if he had any unfulfilled wishes. Yu Tonghai said that only the little girl's life had not been done, so he had to ask the emperor to worry about it.
At that time, Zhu Yuanzhang granted Yu Tonghai's daughter as his adopted daughter, Chifeng as "Princess Jinhua", Chifeng as his adopted son, Chifeng as "Marquis of Dingguo", giving her surname Yu and changing her name to "Yu Dashan".
After Yu Tonghai's death, Zhu Yuanzhang personally arranged the marriage between "Princess Jinhua" and Yu Dashan. Shortly after his marriage, Yu Dashan took his wife "Princess Jinhua" to live in Jiyang West Township of Chaohu. Now there are thousands of people in Dayu village, Xiaoyu village and Yumao village, which is not to be said later.
During the Spring Festival, Princess Yu Dashan brings some food cakes produced in Jiyang town to his adoptive father Zhu Yuanzhang. Zhu Yuanzhang tasted the walnut cake made by Wang Hengmao's pastry shop. She was intoxicated by its color, aroma, taste and shape. Longyan was very happy. She ordered the governor of Anhui Province to make this cake as a tribute. Because of its shape, color and high grade, Zhu Yuanzhang was given the name of "Yipin jade belt cake" - jade belt cake Since then, "Yipin Yudai cake" has become famous all over the world, and has won the praise of "attracting visitors from outside the cloud and attracting immortals in the cave".
The existing old street in Jiyang town is more than 200 meters long from north to South and 150 meters long from east to west. There are more than 1000 ancient dwellings and shops. During the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, Li Hongzhang, who lived in the middle hall, was very powerful. He opened pawnshops in many cities and important market towns. His nephew Li Dahai was in charge of the pawnshops in the East Street of Jiyang town.
Pawnshop covers an area of more than 1000 square meters, with a construction area of 850 square meters. It is of brick and wood structure, with two entrances and two compartments. The front is the foyer, and the back is the trading hall. It has two floors. It is tall and spacious. Its wood, brick and stone carvings are very exquisite. The drainage system of patio is scientific and unique. The building is well preserved. Archaeologists from Anhui province came to Jiyang town for investigation and appraisal. They said that the building is one of the well protected ancient buildings in Anhui Province, and it is an ancient building with typical Luzhou style. Third, blockhouses.
During the Anti Japanese War, Jiyang town was occupied by the Japanese army. They built a group of blockhouses in the north of the town.
