Zhapu
Zhapu town belongs to Pinghu City, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province. It is located in the southeast of Pinghu City, bordering dushangang Town, LindaI town and Danghu street in the East and north respectively, and Haiyan County in the West and southwest. Zhapu is located in the North Bank of Hangzhou Bay, close to the mountains and the sea. It has been known as "the gateway of Jiangsu and Zhejiang" and "the important town of Haikou" since ancient times. In the Qing Dynasty, Zhapu was an important gateway of foreign economic and cultural exchanges in Northern Zhejiang. The administrative area of the town is 64.16 square kilometers (2017), which governs 9 administrative villages and 12 communities, with a permanent population of 99500 (2017).
In 2015, the total revenue of Zhapu town was 665 million yuan, an increase of 0.66% compared with 2014, of which the general public budget revenue was 277 million yuan.
On January 22, 2020, it was named national garden town by the Ministry of housing and urban rural development.
Historical evolution
In the late primitive society, the ancestors lived in Zhapu.
In the spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, Zhapu belonged to Yue. In 494 B.C., Zhapu was defeated by Wu and occupied by Wu for a time. In 475 B.C., Zhapu became Yue again.
In the 20th year of the first emperor of Qin Dynasty (222 BC), Kuaiji county was set up and Haiyan County was set up. Zhapu area belongs to Haiyan County.
In 789, Zhapu set up the next salt officer. In the fourth year of Huichang (844), Zhapu town was set up as an envoy.
During the reign of Shaoxing in Song Dynasty (1131-1162), there was a town tax and fireworks official.
In Yuan Dynasty, it belonged to Haiyan County and Qijing county.
In 1430, Pinghu county was located in the northeast of Haiyan County, and Zhapu was under the jurisdiction of Pinghu county.
After the lifting of the sea ban in 1684, Zhapu was listed as one of the 15 ports along the southeast coast, with a "Customs" and a population of 40000-50000. During the Opium War, Zhapu Port was devastated and almost in ruins.
During the Republic of China, Zhapu town was under the jurisdiction of Zhapu district.
In May 1949, Zhapu was liberated and initially under the jurisdiction of Zhapu district.
In May 1950, it was a town directly under the county.
In October 1958, it was incorporated into Zhapu people's commune.
In June 1959, it became a town directly under the county.
In May 1960, it was transferred to Zhapu people's commune.
In December 1962, it was restored to a county town.
In June 1991, with the approval of the State Council, Pinghu was removed from the county and Zhapu was a municipal town.
In May 1992, Huangshan and Washan townships were removed and merged into Zhapu town.
In July 2001, Jiaxing Port area was established to lead Jiaxing Port Bureau, Zhapu economic development zone and Zhapu town.
