Historical evolution
The origin of place names
Cicheng was built in the spring and Autumn Period 2500 years ago. It was built by King Jujian of Yue. The site of the city is chengshandu, Wangjiaba village, Cicheng. It is known as "Ju", "Ju Yu" and "Ju Zhang" (the pronunciation of "Ju" is "Gou").
In the 26th year of Kaiyuan in the Tang Dynasty (738 AD), Qi Han invited the imperial court to set up another Mingzhou (now Ningbo) in the eastern part of the state, which was originally a county. The court appointed Fang Guan as the first magistrate. Fangxian ordered that the county government should be relocated to the place where Jiulong Xizhu is located. When he ascended the Fubi mountain in the north of the city and looked at the towering ancestral hall of Dong Xiaozi at the foot of Fufeng in the northeast, he could not help but be moved by Dong An's deeds of "collecting water to serve his mother", so he changed the name of "Da Yin Xi" to "Ci Xi", and the name of "Ju Zhang county" to "Ci Xi county". Later generations used to call Cixi County "Cicheng" for short.
Although the title of "Cicheng" appeared in the works of scholars in song and Yuan Dynasties and in the records of historical records of Ming and Qing Dynasties, the official still called Cicheng "Cixi", "county", "Yicheng" and "Xianzhi". The four townships of Cixi called Cicheng "Cixi", "Chengcheng" and "chengchengxiang", while other counties called Cicheng "Cixi", "Cixi County", "Cixi Xianzhi" and "Cixi City" ”"Cixi Chengguan" and "Cixi Chengxiang".
As a county government, Cicheng is the heart of Cixi County. From 738 to 1954, after more than 1200 years of wind and rain, many other names and common names such as "cishui", "Xishang", "Xiaoxi", "Xiaoshui" and "sanxiaoxiang" came into being.
In October 1954, Cixi County government moved to Hushan town in the three north area (Cixi north, Yuyao north, Zhenhai North). As the original Cixi County, Cicheng was renamed "Cixi town" and later "Cicheng Town".
History of city building
Fangguan, the first magistrate of Cixi County, imitated the pattern of "one street, one river, two checkerboards" in the ancient capital Chang'an, and "left Wen and right Wu" in public buildings to build the county government.
In the Southern Song Dynasty, Cixi County had a circumference of 560 Zhang.
Cixi County is located in Binhai. In 1552, the county government was plundered by Japanese pirates and burned in 1556. Zhao Wenhua, the Minister of the Ministry of industry of Cicheng, proposed to build the city and be the governor. Hu Zongxian, the Vice Minister of the Ministry of war, was the governor. From the county (Ningbo Fucheng / Yinxian county) west 50 Li, high two Zhang have strange, site wide two Zhang four feet, vast ten li. The east gate is called Zhenhai gate, the south gate is called Jingming gate, the west gate is called Wangjing gate, and the north gate is called Huanshan gate. The east gate and the west gate have their own small gates, and two water gates are opened around the east gate and the west gate to pass the tide. Each gate has its own tower, and the moon city of Luoyi. There are 2616 battlements on the city, 28 enemy towers, 27 police shops, five points of haojiuli outside, and no haojishan in the north.
In 1624, a new north gate will be opened, which is called Fuji gate.
In the 15th year of Shunzhi (1685) of the Qing Dynasty, Fengwen revised the collection, and increased and blocked it. Zhouhui (Chengwei) is 1643 feet (about 5 kilometers), one hundred and nine feet high, two hundred and two feet high, and one hundred and six feet high. The brick stack is eight feet high, with a total height of 27 feet. There are six gates and seven north gates. Seven military and horse departments. Each gate has four towers and three water gates. There are six horse steps. Thirty one inside and outside the enemy city. Five patrol stations. There are 158 crenels. There are three suspension bridges. The roads inside and outside the city are wide and narrow. Along the Haohe river outside the city, half a mile outside the north gate, there is no Haoshan. So far, there are seven gates in the city. The big east gate is called Zhanyue gate, the big west gate is called cuibao gate, the south gate is called Gongshou gate, the big north gate is called Gongchen gate, and the small east gate, the small west gate and the small north gate.
During Yongzheng, Daoguang, Xianfeng, Tongzhi and Guangxu years, Cixi City Wall was renovated.
After the two Opium Wars, the city gate was renamed as the old name of Ming Dynasty. Dadongmen was renamed zhenhaimen, daximen was renamed wangjingmen, Nanmen was renamed jingmingmen, and dabeimen was renamed huanshanmen.
The ancient city wall of Cicheng has lasted for nearly 400 years. It was not until 1938 that the gate was demolished for the purpose of preventing Japanese aircraft from bombing and evacuating people. From 1949 to the 1960s and 1970s, the city walls were demolished one after another.
In 2019, the Dadongmen (zhanyuemen) of Cicheng will be rebuilt, the southeast section of the moat will be restored, and the east gate of Cicheng will be restored to green space.
History of construction
Cicheng, historically known as "Ju", "Ju Yu" and "Ju Zhang" (the pronunciation of "Ju" is "Gou"), was ruled by Cixi County for more than 1200 years from the 26th year of Kaiyuan in Tang Dynasty (738 AD) to 1954.
The establishment of Ci city began in the time of King Jujian of Wu and Yue (the third year of King yuan of Zhou Dynasty, about 473 BC). The place where the king of Yue lived was juyu in the south, followed by Wu. Because of the great city of juyu, Zhang (Zhang) and Bo (BA) made contributions to show their descendants, it was called Juzhang. The site of the city is located at chengshandu, Wangjiaba village, today's Cicheng City, which serves as a barrier for the state of Yue.
In 222 BC, the Qin Dynasty established the county of jurzhang, which is located in chengshandu, Wangjiaba village, today's Cicheng county.
In the 26th year of Tang Kaiyuan (738 AD), Fang Guan was the first magistrate of Cixi County. The mother's illness gradually healed Cixi County belongs to Mingzhou.
Cixi County originally belonged to Mingzhou Prefecture. In the 14th year of Hongwu, it changed Mingzhou prefecture to Ningbo Prefecture by violating Ming taboo. It had five counties under its jurisdiction, namely Yin, Cixi, Fenghua, Dinghai (now Zhenhai) and Xiangshan. In Xianfeng Period of the Qing Dynasty, changguowei was changed into Dinghai County (now Zhoushan City), and Dinghai was changed into Zhenhai, which was six counties under Ning Prefecture.
In the 16th year of Yongle in Ming Dynasty (1418 AD), the county magistrate of Cixi lost his County seal and asked the imperial court to recast the new seal. The name of Cixi was changed to conggu.
During the period of the Republic of China, Cicheng was once divided into two towns, Xiaodong and Xiaoxi.
In May 1949, Cixi County was liberated and the people's political power was established.
In 1950, with Jiefang Road (Zhijie Street) as the boundary, it was divided into Xiaodong and Xiaoxi towns again, and merged again in 1951.
In October 1954, Cixi County government moved to Hushan town of Yuyao county at that time (now Hushan street of Cixi City). The old Cixi was renamed "Cixi town" and belonged to Yuyao county at that time. In 1956, Cixi County was renamed Cixi County.
In 1958, it was transformed into the people's Commune and became the 20th brigade of Dongfeng people's commune. In 1959, it was called Cicheng commune, and in the same year, it was changed into Cicheng Town.
On October 21, 1960, it was under the jurisdiction of Ningbo City.
