In the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Zhengning County; in 1965, huijiabao commune was incorporated; in 1984, it was changed to Pingzi town. By the end of 2018, the registered residence population in Ping Zi town was 40577. In June 2020, Pingzi town governs 14 administrative villages.

In the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Zhengning county.
In 1949, it belonged to Pingzi District of Ningxian county.
In December 1958, Pingzi commune was established.
In 1959, it was incorporated into Zaosheng commune.
