Datian County, also known as "Yancheng", was subordinate to Yanping Prefecture when it was founded in 1535. Since 1983, it has been under the jurisdiction of Sanming City, Fujian Province. It is located in the middle of Fujian Province and the west side of Daiyun mountains. It covers a total area of 2294 square kilometers and governs 6 townships and 12 towns with a total population of 420000. The natural entity is "nine mountains, half water, half farmland". There are 175 peaks with an altitude of more than 1000 meters, and the forest coverage rate is 70.1%. With overlapping peaks and beautiful mountains and waters, it is the birthplace of three tributaries of Minjiang River, Jiulongjiang River and Jinjiang River, and one of the 12 key ecological function areas in Fujian Province.
Datian County has a mid subtropical monsoon climate with evergreen seasons and moderate temperature and humidity. The annual average temperature is 15.3-19.6 ℃, the frost free period is 280-300 days, the annual precipitation is 1491-1809 mm, the climate is mild, the rainfall is abundant, and the soil is fertile, which is suitable for the development of agriculture, forestry and animal husbandry. The main crops are rice, the main economic crops are tea, soybean, sugarcane and peanut, and the main forest is pine and fir.
Historical evolution
From the Zhou Dynasty to the Yuan Dynasty, the county was subordinate to Qimin Prefecture, Wuyue Prefecture, Minzhong Prefecture, Fuzhou, Lunan Jianzhou, and Yanping Prefecture of Fujian Province; the county was established in 1535, and it was subordinate to Yanping Prefecture; Yongchun Prefecture was changed to Yongchun Prefecture in 1734, and it was subordinate to South Fujian Road, Xiamen Road, Xianyou, Longyan, and Yong'an special offices in the Republic of China; Datian County was established on September 6, 1949 Since then, it has been subordinate to Yong'an, Jinjiang and Sanming districts. In 1983, Sanming District was changed into Sanming City.
In Datian, there were human activities in the Neolithic age. Summer belongs to Yangzhou. Zhou belongs to Qimin. Qin belongs to Minzhong county. In Han Dynasty, it was Nanping. When the county was established in 1535, it belonged to Yanping Prefecture.
In 1734, Yongchun County was promoted to Yongchun Prefecture, and Datian County was subordinate to Yongchun Prefecture.
In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), Fujian province implemented a three-level local political system, with Datian County subordinate to nanludao. In the third year of the Republic of China, Nanlu road was renamed Xiamen Road, and Datian county still belonged to it.
In the 16th year of the Republic of China, the road was abandoned. Fujian province implemented a provincial and county level local political system, and Datian County was directly under Fujian Province.
In November of the 22nd year of the Republic of China, the 19th Route Army of the Kuomintang established the people's revolutionary government of the Republic of China in Fuzhou. Datian County was subordinate to Xingquan province.
In July of the Republic of China, the system of commissioner of administrative supervision was implemented, and the office of commissioner of administrative supervision was set up. The whole province was divided into 10 administrative supervision districts, and Datian County was subordinate to the fourth district (the district office was in Xianyou).
In October of the 24th year of the Republic of China, the whole province was divided into seven administrative supervision districts; in the 32nd year of the Republic of China, the whole province was divided into eight administrative supervision districts, and Datian County was subordinate to the Sixth District (the district office was in Longyan).
In January of the 35th year of the Republic of China, the whole province was divided into nine administrative supervision districts, and Datian County was subordinate to the ninth district (the district office was in Yong'an).
From April 36 to September 5, 38, the administrative divisions of the whole province were readjusted and set up seven administrative supervision districts. Datian County was subordinate to the Sixth District (the district office was in Yong'an).
On August 24, 1949, the people's Government of Fujian Province was established. The province is divided into eight districts and two cities. Datian County is the seventh administrative supervision district of Fujian Province (the district office is in Yong'an).
On September 6, 1949, Datian was liberated and attached to the Yong'an regional Commissioner's office.
In June 1956, Yong'an District Office was abolished, and Datian County was changed to Jinjiang District Office.
In March 1963, Sanming District Commissioner's office was set up, which was changed to Datian County.
In July 1983, Sanming District Commissioner's office was abolished and Sanming City was set up under the jurisdiction of Datian County.

Datian County is located in the geographical center of Fujian Province, Southeast of Sanming City, facing the southern Fujian Golden Triangle Development Zone. It is adjacent to Dehua, Yongchun, Zhangping, Yong'an, Sanyuan, Shaxian and Youxi. It is located in the hinterland of the coast and the frontier of the inland. It is an important channel from the inland to the coast.
Provincial Highway 306 and 307 run through the whole area. There are Wushan, Shipai and Taoyuan interchanges and Shangjing connecting line in Datian of "Quansan" expressway. The Changquan railway, Meiyu Expressway and the "Zongwu" national highway under construction pass through Datian. Caibanyang new urban area under development connects the town of DAPAI at the intersection of Datian County and provincial highway 205 and 305. Basically form a smooth highway network with "Quansan" expressway as the main part and provincial, county and township roads as the auxiliary. In the process of speeding up the modernization of transportation in Datian, the planning and construction of the interchange of Quanzhou Nanjing Expressway with Beijing, jiyongquan express railway, Putian Yanling Expressway and Zhejiang Guangdong national highway passing through Datian will lay a solid foundation for the basic construction of a convenient, safe, economic and efficient comprehensive transportation system.

The natural condition is "nine mountains, half water, half field". The terrain is mountainous and hilly area, with winding mountains, steep peaks and dense gullies. The terrain is roughly inclined from southwest to northeast, 57 km wide from east to west and 75 km long from north to south. There are 175 peaks over 1000 meters. The highest peak is daxianfeng at the southern end, with an altitude of 1553.4 meters. The lowest peak is the lower reaches of Wenjiang River in the north, with an altitude of less than 200 meters. It is one of the birthplaces of Minjiang River, Jiulongjiang River and Jinjiang River.

It belongs to the humid monsoon area in the middle subtropical zone, with no severe cold in winter and no severe heat in summer, abundant sunshine and rainfall. The annual average temperature is 15.3-19.6 ℃, the annual average rainfall is 1491.7-1809.6 mm, the annual average sunshine hours is 1723.8 hours, and the frost free period is 297 days. It is suitable for crop growth. In 1993, the county had 225202 mu of cultivated land (including 199599 mu of paddy field), with 0.67 mu of cultivated land per capita, higher than 0.59 mu of the whole province and lower than 0.99 mu of Sanming City. In the cultivated land, 71% of the mountain ridge fields and terraces above 500 meters above sea level, and 60% of the agricultural land slopes above 15%. Most of the cultivated land with small border, large slope and thin soil layer is a typical mountainous county.

The theoretical reserves are 206700 kilowatts and 95800 kilowatts can be developed. The main rivers are Junxi, Xianfeng, Wenjiang and Taoyuan. Junxi is the largest river in the county. The main stream is 81.7 km long, and the theoretical reserves of hydraulic resources account for 53.3% of the county. It can be used for the development of seven power stations.
Datian County has unique mineral resources and is known as the "treasure house of central Fujian". It is one of the main mineral resources in Fujian Province and one of the first 100 key coal producing counties in China. The discovered and proved mineral resources include coal (reserves 300 million tons), limestone, iron ore reserves 150 million tons, 37 kinds of copper, lead, zinc, tungsten, manganese, sulfur and porcelain clay. The mineral types, reserves and value rank first in Fujian Province and Sanming City. Among them, there are 300 million tons of coal, covering 13 townships (towns), more than 700 square kilometers of coal measures; 150 million tons of iron ore, one of the five major iron ore areas in the province; 500 million tons of limestone, the raw material base of building materials and cement in the province; 30 million tons of porcelain clay, white, uniform, soft, suitable for the production of various kinds of high-grade ceramics.
The forest area is 1.551 million mu, accounting for 67.9% of the suitable forest land area, the forest coverage rate is 48.6%, and the greening rate is 71.03%. The volume of standing trees is 5.269 million cubic meters, including 4.254 million cubic meters of timber trees. There are 621 plant species belonging to 141 families and more than 20 rare tree species. Metasequoia glyptostroboides belongs to the first-class national protection, while Ginkgo biloba, Eucommia ulmoides, Fokienia hodginsii, Taxus chinensis, Tsuga tsugamushi, Cephalotaxus fortunei, and Larix kaempferi belong to the second-class national protection.
There are 110 species such as tiger, leopard, antelope, fox, black bear and pangolin. There are 957 kinds of medicinal materials, especially Gynostemma pentaphyllum, which is known as ginseng in South China. In 1993, it has an annual output of 700 tons of dry products. The development of its series of products has begun to take shape and has been sold at home and abroad.
