Gao Cen
Gao cen (1621-1691), a native of Hangzhou, lived in Jinling (now Nanjing). Gao Fudi is one of the eight families in Jinling.
He is a noble man, handsome in appearance, less than fame, and good in nature. Gao Cen, a native of Hangzhou, lives in Jinling (Nanjing). It is one of the eight schools in Jinling. Good at landscape and ink flowers, freehand brushwork. In 1643 of Chongzhen and 1672 of Kangxi, he wrote landscape fan, which is included in 37 of celebrity painting and calligraphy fan and seal of Ming and Qing painters. In the fifth year of Kangxi (1666) and the eighteenth year of Kangxi (1679), he wrote the book of mountains and rivers, which was collected in the Palace Museum and the seal of Ming and Qing painters.
Artistic achievements
"Eight schools of Jinling" was one of the most influential painting schools in Nanjing during the KangQian period of Qing Dynasty. There are Gong Xian, Gao Cen, fan Qi, Zou Zhe, Wu Hong, Ye Xin, Xie sun, Hu Zhen and so on. Although the eight painters were included in one school, their painting styles were quite different, and their learning styles were different. What they have in common is that they are indifferent to fame and fame, and they are noble. They only associate with poetry and wine, calligraphy and painting. They regard temples as cesspools and mud ponds, and they like to swim in the rivers and lakes. The eight families had a chance to gather together, and there were not many words. Gao Cen's achievements in the "eight schools" are second only to Gong Xian. He is not only good at landscape painting, but also good at ink and flower painting. In his early years, he admired Zhu Han, and later learned from Lan Ying. He also found his roots in Dong Yuan's and Ju Ran's ink of the Song Dynasty, as well as Huang Zijiu's ethereal simplicity, and Shen Shitian's unconventional manner. At the beginning of Gao Cen's life, he was plain and steady. Later in his middle age, he advocated freehand brushwork and pursued the spirit and realm. His paintings gradually became high spirited.
