Shen Fu
Shen Fu (December 26, 1763-1832?) He was born in Changzhou, Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. He was a writer of the Qing Dynasty.
He was born in 1763 in the 28th year of Qianlong reign of Qing Dynasty. He did not take part in the imperial examination. He once made a living by selling paintings. At the age of 19, he made a living and then moved around the country for more than 40 years. Later, he went to Suzhou to engage in wine industry.
He and his wife Chen Yun have a good relationship. Because of family changes, they lived in other places and experienced ups and downs. After his wife died, he went to Sichuan to work as an aide. At the age of 46, he was sent to Ryukyu with the Qing envoys. He retired from his hometown at the age of 47 to 48. At the age of 49 to 60, he stayed in Rugao, and returned to his hometown after the age of 61.
He wrote six volumes of autobiographical work six chapters of a floating life (two volumes later lost), which had a great influence. In 1936, Lin Yutang translated this work into English and published it abroad.

He was an official with his father. He studied in Anhui Jixi, Shanghai Qingpu, Jiangsu Yangzhou, Hubei Jingzhou and Shandong Laiyang. Middle age business. Shen Fu is good at landscape, painting and prose. Apart from six chapters of a floating life, there are only a few poems on Wanghai, Youshan in the rain and paintings.
In Jiaqing period, Shen Fu was sent to Ryukyu as a "Si Bi Yan". After returning to China, he worked as an assistant in Rugao, Jiangsu Province for a long time.

The latter two chapters, Zhongshan calendar and health preserving Road, have been lost. They narrate the experiences of most of their lives in simple style, contrasting happiness with sorrow, which is truly moving.
Lin Yutang, a great master of modern Chinese literature, translated six chapters of a floating life into English and introduced it to the United States, which was also praised by famous writers such as Yu Pingbo.
In 1849, Wang Tao wrote a postscript for the book, praising it as "touching and sorrowful between the pen and ink, and deeply devoted." "Six chapters of a floating life" and other books adopt the technique of "preface and postscript".

In 1877, Yang Yinchuan was handed over to Shanghai declaration office for typesetting, 70 years after its completion. Six chapters of a floating life is an autobiographical novel written in 1808 by Shen Fu of Changzhou (now Suzhou, Jiangsu Province) in the Qing Dynasty. Yang Yinchuan, the wife and brother of Wang Tao in the Qing Dynasty, found the manuscript of six chapters of a floating life on a cold stall in Suzhou, which had only four volumes. Wen Zun Ge Ban's six chapters of a floating life is the earliest printed plate, which includes the preface of Yang Yin's biography and Wang Tao's postscript of "Zun Wen Ge Wang". In the preface of Yang's biography, he said that "six chapters are missing two". Wang Tao once said that he had read this book in his youth (before 1847 A.D.), but there was no copy. When he was in exile in Hong Kong, he often missed it. In his postscript to Zunwen Pavilion edition in 1849, Wang Tao did not say that he had seen the whole edition when he was young.
In 1936, Lin Yutang translated four chapters of six chapters of a floating life into English and serialized them in Tianxia monthly. Later, a Chinese English bilingual booklet was published with a long preface. In his preface, Lin Yutang wrote, "Yun, I think, is the most lovely woman in Chinese literature." He also guessed that "there must be a complete book in Suzhou's home collection or old bookshop.".
Soon after that, a "complete manuscript" appeared on the cold stand in Suzhou. There were five volumes and six volumes, which were actually made by later generations.

In the autumn of 2005, Peng Ling, a native of Pingyao, found a handwritten copy of Ji Shi Zhu on the ghost market of Chaotian Palace in Nanjing. After expert identification, it is confirmed that it is the first draft of the fifth volume of the six chapters of a floating life by Shen Fu, a writer of the Qing Dynasty.
Shen Fu described the Qing mission's experience of passing by Diaoyu Islands in the fifth record of the annals of the sea in six chapters of a floating life.

The earliest English version was Lin Yutang's Chinese English version in 1936. Later, Oxford University Press published the English version of six chapters of a floating life in 1960. In the 1980s, there were English versions by Bai Lun and Jiang Suhui from Penguin publishing house. The translation will be published by Yilin publishing house in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province as one of the "Greater China Libraries".
