Tianchi reservoir, also known as Yunlong Tianchi and shuchanghai, is located 23 kilometers southwest of Yunlong County, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, on the top of Wubao mountain with an altitude of 2552 meters. The lake is formed by rainwater from the top of the mountain. The lake covers an area of 1.4 square kilometers with a maximum capacity of 10.6 million cubic meters. A reservoir has been built to irrigate more than 10000 mu of farmland.

Tianchi reservoir is rich in natural resources and has the value of plateau lake ecological research. It is surrounded by wild forests, especially the original state of forest dominated by Pinus yunnanensis. The flora is scattered and diverse, and there are precious animals listed as class I, II and III protection. It is a rare base for scientific research. Tianchi Lake has clear water, cool climate, colorful wild flowers, dense Zizania latifolia and flocks of wild ducks. There is an island near the south bank. There are fat fish, crucian carp, carp, flower fish, etc. in the lake. There used to be deer farm (now closed). Around the Tianchi Lake, the forest is verdant and dense. When I hear birds, I occasionally see animal traces.

Tianchi reservoir is now a national nature reserve. There are still more than 1700 Yunnan snub nosed monkeys in the reserve, which have been listed in the red list of endangered animals in the world.

Introduction to scenic spots

There is a moving legend about the origin of Tianchi in the villages inhabited by Bai, Han, Susu, Yi and other nationalities within tens of miles around Tiandi. A long time ago, Tianchi was called Shuchang. It was a green grass dam full of grass, wild flowers and grazing. One year, the Third Prince of the Dragon King of Erhai Lake in Dali decided to leave Erhai Lake and find another place to live because he could not stand the abuse of his stepmother and the friction between his brothers. So he invited Dali's horse Gang to carry 12 loads of things from his father to wander along the direction of the sunset in the mountains and valleys. Finally, he was fascinated by the green grass dam hidden deep in the mountains. At the moment, they were relieved of their burden and settled down. They asked the horse drivers to spend the night at Ma'anshan. Each one gave them a green brick and asked them to make pillows. They repeatedly told them not to open their eyes no matter what happened at night, so that they could be at peace. In the middle of the night after that, there was a sudden gust of wind, lightning and thunder, and torrential rain. When it was clear after the rain, the drivers first found that all the blue bricks on the pillow last night had turned into gold bricks. Look down the mountain again, ah! Yesterday, the charming green grass dam disappeared. Instead, it was a green and secluded lake. The full water of the lake flowed down the Yakou of Dongshan mountain, and tears flowed into the dry and smoking fields at the foot of the mountain.

WUBAOSHAN on the West Bank of Tiandi Lake stands at an altitude of 3225.9 meters. Renli mountain, Dali Cangshan East, West can refer to the Biluo snow mountain. What you can see is the difference between the near and the far, and what you can see is the difference in the feeling of beauty. Tianchi is not only famous for its unique natural scenery, but also for the numerous animals and plants around the mountain. In the 1980s, Tianchi area was identified as a provincial second-class nature reserve. In 2012, it was promoted to a National Nature Reserve, with a total area of 101553 Mu and a forest coverage rate of 80%. The main protected objects are the original forest of Yunnan pine, alpine lakes and various wild animals such as monkeys.

There are more than 100 species of trees and herbs in Tiandi nature reserve. There are also different species and genera of the same kind of plants, among which Rhododendron alone has dozens of species, such as Rhododendron enchantment, Rhododendron dewdrop, Rhododendron cuspidatum, Rhododendron pratensis, Rhododendron yunnanensis, Rhododendron axillary, Rhododendron dabaihua, etc. There are many wild animals in Tiandi nature reserve. Tiger, leopard and red breasted horned pheasant belong to the first level of national protection, while rhesus monkey, musk deer, red panda, swan, snow pheasant, civet and three tailed Brown Papilio belong to the second level of national protection. There are 118 species of birds belonging to 34 orders and 16 families. In 2003, Yunlong County and Yunnan Normal University conducted a joint investigation on the monkey population in Longma mountain for the first time. It was confirmed that Yunnan snub nosed monkey (Rhinopithecus yunnanensis), a national first-class protected animal, lived here.
