The leaves are strip-shaped or needle-shaped, the base of which does not extend downward; the strip-shaped leaves are flat, sparsely tetragonal, spirally scattered on the long branches, and clustered on the short branches; the needle-shaped leaves are 2-5 needles (sparsely 1 needle or as many as 81 needles) in a bunch, attached to the top of the extremely degenerated short branches, with leaf sheaths at the base. Flowers are unisexual, monoecious; male cones are axillary or at the top of single branch, or mostly gathered at the top of short branch, with many spirally inserted stamens, each stamen has two anthers, pollen has air sac or no air sac, or has degenerated air sac; female cones are composed of many spirally inserted Pearl scales and bract scales, the Pearl scales are smaller than bract scales, the sparse pearl scales are larger than bract scales, the abdomen of each pearl scale (upper part) The bract scales on the dorsal (lower) surface are separated from the ovule scales (only the base is connate), and the ovule scales grow into seed scales after anthesis. Huangshan pine is vigorous, straight and impressive, but its bottom-up environment is extremely difficult. Many strange pines have no soil under them, so they have to take root in the cracks of granite. Because of steep cliffs and difficult rain retention, in order to find water source, the roots have to constantly dive into the water fault layer deep in the rock mass, so the length of the roots is often several times longer than that of the trees. In addition, the roots have to make such arduous efforts to absorb the nitrogen and phosphorus in the rock bit by bit, and take the potassium from the fleshy feldspar as the existing mineral. In this way, the Pinus taiwanensis survived. It was firmly rooted on solid rocks. It was not only unshakable by the wind, but also under constant snow pressure. It had deep roots and strong leaves, and was evergreen all the year round.

Longzhaosong and LIANLI pine
