The Shanghai workers' Cultural Palace, established by the Shanghai municipal government and the Shanghai Federation of trade unions on October 1, 1950, provides a place for workers to study culture, science and art in their spare time. Shanghai workers' Cultural Palace (hereinafter referred to as "City Palace") is located at No.120 Middle Tibet Road (opposite to the people's Park), east of the people's Square, Shanghai's administrative, cultural and commercial center.

It is adjacent to Shanghai Grand Theater, Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall and other cultural venues. Covering an area of 2591 square meters, the seven storey main building was built in 1929. The classical Europa architecture style still exists, and it is listed as an excellent building protection unit in Shanghai. After transformation, the internal facilities and environment are now in a new look, with a construction area of 15824 square meters.

Hosting activities

It has hosted the Spring Festival tea party of Shanghai model workers and the literature and art Gala to celebrate the May 1st International Labor Day. Jasmine art troupe has performed 130 performances for grass roots and staff. On September 30, 1950, the Shanghai workers' culture palace was built in the former Oriental Hotel building on Middle Tibet Road, serving as a literature and art guidance and guidance center and a comprehensive cultural and entertainment place for the city's workers. Mayor Chen Yi personally presented the plaque of "workers' school and Paradise". The municipal workers' amateur art troupe organized by the Cultural Palace has 13 sub troupes with nearly 800 members. There are also seven creative groups and a red child art troupe composed of 300 workers' children. In 1978 and 1990, the drama "in silence" and "heat flow outside the house" created and performed by the art troupe won awards and commendations jointly granted by the Ministry of culture and the all China Federation of trade unions. The drama blood is always hot was filmed at the 1984 Federal Film Festival in Germany. In 1983, Shanghai workers' Jasmine Art Troupe was set up and performed in Italy, Japan and other countries.

In 1960, the Cultural Palace was rated as the advanced unit of socialist construction in education, culture, health, sports and journalism in the city and the whole country. In 1981, it was awarded the title of advanced unit of staff education by the municipal government. In 1983, it was rated as the national advanced unit at the third national trade union club working conference, and was also named as the municipal civilized unit in the same year.
