Historical evolution
One day in the late summer of the 12th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, Fenshui surged and burst the dykes along the Fenhe River. After the rainstorm stopped, people had to dig up the wall on the south side to drain the flood water. At that time, the flood diversion area was selected on the wasteland outside the Yingze gate (commonly known as the Great South Gate). Since then, a small lake has been left outside the gate, and over time, it has become a low-lying area After that, it once became the execution ground and graveyard of the old government. There is a small lake outside Yingze gate.
Before liberation, Yingze Park was still a wild beach in the suburbs outside the great south gate. In summer, mosquitoes and flies were everywhere, and weeds were overgrown. In winter, the cold wind was calling and wolves were howling. It was a dead corner of urban construction.
In 1952, Taiyuan municipal government decided to build a new park on the south side of Yingze street
.
In 1954, the new park was named Yingze Park because it was located outside Yingze gate in ancient Taiyuan, just like Yingze street and Yingze bridge.
In the same year, the party and government mobilized the people of the whole city to do voluntary labor, such as draining sewage, digging lakes and mountains, building roads and walls, and planting trees and flowers.
There is no lake in Yingze Park, but there is no park without water. At the beginning of the establishment of the park in 1954, the higher authorities instructed that "the water of Yingze lake should be preserved".
The park is divided into South Lake and North Lake by qikong bridge. South Lake was dug in 1954 and North Lake was dug in 1955. The project is planned to introduce the Fenhe River into Heilongtan from the upstream, pass through xihaizi, and then lead into Yingze Lake through a 900 meter long cement pipe with an inner diameter of 50 cm paved in Yingze street, and then retreat to the east main canal through today's Shanxi Medical University.
In 1955, Yingze Park built a seven hole bridge in the lake. At the beginning, there were only five holes. With the development of landscape architecture and the increasing number of tourists, the original small bridge could not meet the needs of tourists. In 1962, two more holes were built and completed in 1964.
In 1956, Taiyuan city set up the garden department, and Yingze Park is a subordinate unit of the garden department. In the same year, chairman Zhu De visited the park.
On June 1, 1957, the international children's day, Yingze Park was officially opened to the public. It was a rare large-scale urban park in China at that time.
In 1958, the Sutra collection building (Fenghua building) of Dongda temple in Taigu County, which was built in the 25th year of jindading, was moved from the original appearance of Taigu County. It was built on the 1.2-meter-high stone platform in the park until 1960. After the building was completed, it became the center of cultural activities and festivals in the provincial capital. The completion of the park has changed the momentum of the park and become a symbol of Yingze Park, which is famous both inside and outside the province.
In the same year, the corridor of the summer palace in Beijing was built.
In 1959, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the founding of the people's Republic of China, Taiyuan city organized large-scale garden activities and fireworks parties in the park, which was unprecedented. Since then, this activity has been held once a year.
1961: to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, the Park held four seasons "July 1 flower show" during July 1.
During the cultural revolution, due to the construction of buildings, the original water system was destroyed, so the park can only use the original return channel to divert water from the east main channel to the lake through the Nansha River.
At the same time, the park was renamed as workers, peasants and soldiers park. The park management was affected, some garden buildings were damaged, and the park landscape was seriously damaged.
1976: the Taiyuan municipal government expanded Yingze East Street, using the waste soil from the East Street to build East and West rockeries in Yingze Park. However, the East rockery scenic spot was destroyed artificially in the mid-1990s.
Until the early 1970s. In the nearly 20 years since the opening of Yingze Park, the ticket price has been maintained at 3 cents
1977: the park dug the lake for the second time to build the bank, deepened the depth of Yingze lake from 1.1 meters to 1.5 meters, built the original more than 4000 meters long soil slope bank into a 3-meter-high rubble Lake weir, built a Huxin island in the center of North Lake, and built a pavilion on the Island, named Huxin Pavilion.
In the 1980s, the park purchased moon rockets and spaceships from Beijing one after another. In 1985, a new children's monorail train was built. Later, there were more and more electric children's toys, such as bumper cars and rapids.
On December 9, 1983, Chi Yuezhong, a 15-year-old girl in grade two of Taiyuan No.15 middle school, died bravely to rescue two primary school students who fell into the water in dayingpan primary school. At that time, Chi Yuezhong's deeds and the other two acts of bravery for a just cause in Huashan of Xi'an and chenlvhu of Shijiazhuang were named "one mountain and two lakes" by the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League. Chi Yuezhong was also recognized as a martyr.
On May 30, 1984, Taiyuan Youth League Committee built a monument for Chi Yuezhong near the South Lake of the park.
Every Qingming Festival, members of the Communist Youth League and young pioneers from all over Taiyuan come here to remember the martyrs and take an oath to learn from them.
From 1986 to 1990, park tickets were changed to 0.1 yuan per ticket, 1 yuan per month, 6 yuan per year and 1 yuan for foreign guests.
Since December 1, 1990, the admission fee of the park has been changed to 0.2 yuan per ticket, the number of visitors has increased to 2.79 million, and the income is 1.14 million yuan.

From September 15 to October 31, 1991, the provincial government held "two festivals a week" (Shanxi Foreign Friendship Exchange activity week, Shanxi International gongs and drums Festival and the second China Folk Art Festival). Among them, the "light of coal sea" lantern exhibition was held in Yingze Park, with 94 groups of large and medium-sized colored lamps on display.
On the evening of September 24, 1991, due to improper organization, a major stampede occurred in the qikongqiao area, resulting in 105 deaths and 108 injuries.
In April 1993, the ticket price was adjusted to 0.5 yuan. From March 20, 1994, each ticket price was adjusted from 1 yuan to 1.5 yuan.
Since January 1995, the monthly ticket is 5 yuan and the annual ticket is 20 yuan. From April 1, 1995, two kinds of ticket charging standards will be implemented, that is, 2 yuan in peak season and 1 yuan in off season. Before the free opening of the park in 2002, the annual number of visitors to the park was more than 3 million.
On July 1, 2002, in accordance with the spirit of the 14th mayor's office meeting of Taiyuan City, Yingze Park was officially opened free of charge.
