Foguang Lake in the suburb of Leshan, Sichuan. Visitors are pleasantly surprised by the flocks of waterfowl. There are groups of wild ducks covering the lake. Egrets and grey herons are playing among the branches. The graceful posture of herons standing on the top of the trees is even more fascinating. Dai Wenhong, a 74 year old mountain patrolling man, said that more than 1000 wild ducks, 700 herons and some egrets are wintering here, while the smaller ones such as bamboo chickens and Kingfisher are more. When peach blossom is in full bloom, Foguang lake has become a world of egrets. There were two or three thousand egrets living and breeding here. The island in the middle of the lake is a kingdom of egrets. The place where Foguang lake is located was originally known as "rotten farmland rush". In the past, it was full of muddy farmland, and there were not many crops, which has always been a headache for local farmers. In 1993, Huayi tourism development company took a fancy to this place, and then began to build a ridge between the hills to store water, enclosing the Foguang lake. Later, they raised fish and shrimp in the lake, and cut off the land connection between the island in the middle of the lake and the back mountain, making it an isolated island. With food and shelter, Foguang lake gradually attracts birds.
