Fan Hongxian tomb
Fan Hongxian's tomb is located on the east slope of the East horse waist of Zhongshan cemetery. The original tomb has a large scale, including memorial archway, tomb passage, memorial hall, stele Pavilion, etc., which was destroyed during the Anti Japanese war. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, it was rebuilt in the original site. The tomb is rectangular, in front of which stands a 1.5-meter-high tombstone with seven gold-plated characters of "Tomb of general fan Hongxian". Fan Hongxian's tomb was completely destroyed in ten years of turmoil. On October 21, 1972, the State Council instructed the people's Government of Jiangsu Province to repair fan's tomb. At the same time, the remains of Mrs. fan and Li Zhenru, a member of the old alliance, were moved from the tombs of Tangshan to be buried together. The tombstone is engraved with seven characters: "the tomb of Mr. Fan Hongxian".
From the entrance of the horses on the east side of Zijin Mountain, along the long corridor, you can directly lead to fan Hongxian cemetery.
The fan family
Fan Hongxian, named qiguang and named Hongxian, was born in a poor peasant family in Hefei, Anhui Province in 1882. In the spring of 1908, fan Hongxian left home to join the revolutionary movement in Shanghai, and joined the league. Together with Zhang Binglin, Song Jiaoren, Chen Qimei and Yu Youren, he founded minhu daily in Shanghai. Fan Ren was the main writer. Under the pseudonym of "Guhong", he often wrote articles advocating revolution, advocating republicanism and exposing the dark corruption of the Qing Dynasty, which was regarded as a thorn in the eye by Chinese and foreign reactionaries. When Sun Yat Sen launched the "second revolution" against yuan, fan Hongxian personally went to Wuhu and sent troops to fight against yuan. After the failure of the second revolution, he went into exile in Japan. In 1914, he was ordered by Sun Yat Sen to return from Japan to Shanghai to launch a military struggle against yuan. Yuan Shikai offered a reward of 100000 silver yuan to capture fan Hongxian. In the early morning of September 20, fan Hongxian was killed by Yuan Shikai's bandits when he was drafting military documents on Gordon Road. He was 32 years old.
He used to work for minhu daily and minxu daily. Participated in the planning of Guangzhou Uprising and Wuchang Uprising. After the Wuchang Uprising, he was once the commander-in-chief of Anhui iron blood army. He strongly opposed Yuan Shikai and assisted Bai Wenwei to launch the second uprising. After the failure of the uprising, he went into exile in Japan. Soon after, he returned to Shanghai under Sun Yat Sen's command to plot a case. On September 20, 1914, he was assassinated in his residence in Shanghai.
Heroic sacrifice
The news of fan Hongxian's murder shocked the whole country. Dr. Sun Yat Sen called Li Zhenru, fan Hongxian's wife, to Japan to offer her personal pension and sympathy. He spoke highly of fan Hongxian's life and promised that "after the success of the revolution, fan Hongxian will be buried in the state.". In September 1929, the Kuomintang Central Committee decided to bury fan Hongxian in Zhongshan cemetery. On March 21, 1935, the Central Committee of the Kuomintang made fan Hongxian an army general and organized a preparatory committee to handle his funeral. In November of the same year, the Central Committee of the Kuomintang sent people to Shanghai to welcome fan Hongxian's coffin to Nanjing, the national revolutionary martyrs' Shrine in the first park of the temporary residence. On February 18, 1934, the national government and people from all walks of life held a public memorial ceremony at the mortuary.
On February 19, the Kuomintang government and people from all walks of life held a state funeral for fan Hongxian in Zhongshan cemetery. After the state funeral, fan Hongxian, who Sun Yat Sen called "a pen is better than a hundred thousand masters", was forgotten by the world.
Heroes rest in peace
Today's cemetery is not as large as it used to be. Only in dongma Yaokou, there is a piece of granite used to build the tomb, which is about 1.5 meters long, 0.7 meters wide and 0.2 meters thick. It has not yet fully formed stone. The marble pavement of the tomb road still exists. From the tomb road to 20 meters, there is the old foundation of the memorial archway built in that year. The tomb of fan Hongxian is a cultural relic protection unit in Nanjing.
