Taro ancient Dong village is located in taro village, 9 kilometers southwest of the county. It was first built in 1368 during Hongwu Period of Ming Dynasty and has a history of 642 years. It was burned in 1644 during Shunzhi period of Qing Dynasty. After reconstruction, it formed seven communities with the axis of taro stream branching on both sides. In 1777, the taro dragon bridge, Yashang Drum Tower and Longshi drum tower were built. During the reign of Daoguang and Guangxu in Qing Dynasty, tianniu Drum Tower, Lusheng ancient tower, Longmen and ancient Yidao street were built respectively.
On June 21, 2001, it was announced as the fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council. In 2007, it was rated as one of the first batch of Chinese landscape villages with an area of about 18.29 hectares. There are 176 households and 758 people in the village. It is a pure Dong village. It is a well preserved ancient residential complex in China, and can be called the "physical museum" of Dong folk houses.

Historical evolution

The architecture of taro Dong village belongs to the typical ridge and valley type. Most of the houses in the village adopt the "pole and fence" architecture. Some adopt the style of stilted building to adapt to the humid climate and many mosquitoes in southern mountainous areas.
The roof of the building is suspended in mountain style, with small green tiles or fir skin covering, making the building simple in color and pleasant in texture. Taro Dong village was first built in Hongwu Period of Ming Dynasty, and then it was burned. Most of the existing buildings in the village were built in the middle and late Qing Dynasty.
Great significance
There are four drum towers in the village: the drum tower in the village stands simply in the field; the long's Drum Tower stands high on the top of the mountain; the Lusheng Drum Tower has the most beautiful carved beams and paintings, with nine stories of dense eaves. The Lusheng top wooden tower has four corners on the lower five stories and eight corners on the upper four stories. The eaves are decorated with dragon, Phoenix, flowers and birds, and the golden light is shining; the Yashang Drum Tower is the most dangerous, half of which is built on the hillside, and the other half is suspended under the hillside Supported by 17 pear wood pillars, the longest one is 9.1 meters high.
