Zhu Dachun's former residence

Zhu Dachun's former residence is located on the east side of Qingming bridge outside the South Gate of Wuxi, Bodugang street, 117-122 Bodugang. The former residence has a large scale and some of the buildings are exquisitely constructed. It is the most complete former residence of Qing Dynasty celebrities protected and restored in Wuxi qingmingqiao Historical District, and also the largest provincial cultural relics protection unit in the former residence.

Half of Zhu Dachun's house in Bodugang, Wuxi's hometown, is ancestral property (that is, his wife Chen's), and the other half is expanded after he made a fortune in Shanghai. Specifically speaking, the four entrances on the main axis are old houses built in the Qing Dynasty, all of which are hard mountaintop bungalows with three wide faces. Among them, the third entrance beam has a peculiar method, with Ruyi cloud pattern carved on it, a boat canopy shaped porch in the front, and a two-step porch in the back, which is of high architectural artistic value. The houses on both sides of the main axis were later expanded. On the west side, there are three rooms wide and four rooms in front and back; on the east side, there are three rooms and two rooms in front and two floors high small turntable building. At the foot of the wall in the northeast corner, there are still stone inscriptions of "Zhu Shi Ji Jie". The whole homestead is large in scale, and some of the buildings are exquisite in workmanship with obvious characteristics. In the early years of the Republic of China, Zhu Dachun was enthusiastic about the construction of public welfare in his hometown. He established two civilian schools with joint venture, and changed his former residence into Dachun primary school. As a result, he was awarded the plaque of "respect education and encourage learning" by the Beiyang Government. He also successively funded the construction of Tongyun bridge and Tonghui bridge, and only invested in the construction of Dachun bridge on bodu port. Now it is transformed into Xinglong bridge. He also invested in the repair of Longguang tower and Baoan bridge Temple and Castle Peak temple, etc.

Historical evolution

After the founding of the people's Republic of China, most of Zhu Dachun's former residences were rented by the housing management department of the government as residential houses and small shops. In 1956, some of them became the newly expanded wangyuanji pot factory. In 1994, the boiler plant was closed and all its assets were merged into Wuxi compressor plant. The third and fourth houses on the main axis of Zhu Dachun's former residence also belong to the compressor factory.

As time goes by. Zhu Dachun, who had made great contributions to the development of modern industry and Commerce in China and had a great influence, has experienced a century of changes in his former residence, but most of the houses are still there. In June 2003, Wuxi Municipal People's Government approved the declaration of the Department of culture and cultural relics, and approved and announced this group of buildings as municipal cultural relics protection units under the name of "former site of wangyuanji pot factory". In the future, the name of this cultural relic protection unit can be changed to "Zhu Dachun's former residence" at an appropriate time, and conditions can be created to restore it to its original state and open it to the public for commemoration.
